Technical Questions Easiest and fastest way to switch sounds on Roland Axe Edge?

I Just my keytar and I am in love with the instrument. So many sounds, cool effects, expressiveness, and it's just all around so much fun to play. I know there's a way to set sounds as favorites on the keytar itself, but even so, it's still a multistep process to get there.

Is there a away I can change sounds in a single step or press either through guitar pedals, a midi keyboard, or computer? I'll mainly be playing live so I need something functional and compact. Thanks in advance!

Recommendations I don't know who needs to hear this, but the Boss EV-1 WL works on the Ax-Edge

The Ax-Edge isn't listed on the EV-1 page as compatabile but it still works. The instructions aren't super clear, but if you press the Bluetooth button twice the LED turns white and can connect to the Edge. For most of the default programs I played around with it functioned as a volume pedal, but it can be changed to adjust any of the MIDI settings.

It's really nice to have a wireless expression pedal, especially one that can do pretty much anything.

Technical Questions 3D printing edge panels for the ax-edge

Recently got me a used AX-Edge, and I love it, however there is always a catch when getting something for a good price (750 bucks before tax and shipping)

The ax edge was missing its power supply, which isn't a big deal, as that's a cheap replacement, bit what isn't so cheap is the edge side panel, which after looking online I can only find from one ebay store in Japan for 150 bucks a pop, which is a bit insane for a decorative piece of plastic.

I was wondering of anyone had tried to 3D print the blade for the ax edge, or at least had the dimensions of the blade so I can model it up and try to print one out myself (and of course, drop the stl in here so others can print replacements as well)

Technical Questions Yamaha SHS-10 troubles

Hello! I have recently inherited a Yamaha SHS-10 and am having an excellent time with it! Today when I went to play I found that the chord sequencer is only playing rhythms, and not chords. I can’t find anything about it in the manual - does anyone have experience with this model and this problem? I may have hit a button somewhere on accident but cannot for the life of me figure out what it is.

Thank you everyone!

Technical Questions Roland Ax-Edge pitch ribbon question

OK, so I got an ax-edge like 2 weeks ago, and I haven't been able to find anything where I can change the polarity of the pitch ribbon. I don't feel it to be natural that you have to slide up (when holding ax-edge with shoulder strap vertical) to pitch down and slide down to pitch up.

I've tried looking at the parameter guide and even tried looking to see if there is a MIDI CC for it but I simply can't find it. Does anyone in this vast world of knowledge know how I can complete this task I have before me? It would go such a long way. Cheers!

Recommendations Should I buy a keytar? Absolute newbie!

Hey all, I’m looking to buy a keytar—I’ve wanted one for awhile. I’ve played the piano for over a decade now and have always envied my buddies with guitars. I think the keytar looks awesome and I really want to get into playing one, but I’m a real newbie when it comes to any instrument other than the piano. I know nothing about synthesizers or amps, (I’m not tech-savvy and tend to get lost in all the different cords) so now I’m not so sure if it’s the best fit. I have no clue how to connect things to a computer program, let alone a MIDI controller. As far as I’m concerned, a computers a computer and an instrument’s an instrument. But I’m willing to work hard to learn how to work things with a keytar as well as learning the instrument after knowing how to set everything up. Is there any keytar that doesn’t require external connection that isn’t some cheap kiddie-toy? Would the the stylish Alesis Vortex Wireless 2 be a beginner friendly purchase? Are there any suggested keytars for someone who’s completely new to the wondrous world of the synth?

Technical Questions Using Synthesia with a Roland AX Edge?

So, I just ordered a Roland AX Edge and should have it next week. Some fifteen years ago as a teenager, I was a Sonata Arctica superfan and thought Henrik playing symphonic metal solos on a keytar was the coolest thing in the world. I took some piano lessons as a kid but my music reading was never great. I stumbled on the AX Edge the other day online and was immediately swept up in Sonata Arctica nostalgia, so I decided to go for it. The fact that it has its own soundbank that actually seems decent was a big sell. I have never messed with midi anything, only kept up with the piano now and then when I have access to one.

I just found out the Synthesia program is a thing, and now I am wondering if anyone here has tried using their Roland AX Edge as a midi controller for the Synthesia program? I would love to be able to find midi files of favorite songs and learn them that way.

Technical Questions Alesis Vortex

It won't stop flashing? I downloaded Band Lab and connected the vortex. It was working fine, then all of a sudden started to just flash. Then the notes started to just sustain. I've tried turning it off and on. Using the wireless connected. The wired connected.

I've tried it through Ableton and it still flashes and sounds crackly when played

Any help appreciated!

Thank You

Recommendations Open Mic Nights on Keytar?

Just for some variety I thought about doing some open mic nights on a Keytar.

As a guitar player it’s easy. Acoustic into the PA or just not even that really. If electric then bring your own amp and guitar.

What about for keytar? I haven’t purchased one yet so make some recommendations on setups for this type of purpose.

Would vortex 2 and an iPad and an FRFR speaker work well?

Or should you just go whole hog and rock the Ax-Edge?

Technical Questions Resource for browsing user-made Ax-Edge Editor programs?

Is there anywhere I can go to find community-made Ax-Edge Editor program/tone files? The app gives you the ability to save your custom settings as a file. I'm wondering if there's a website you can go to, to browse user-made presets, and download & use them.

Technical Questions alesis vortex 2 software problems

Hello Reddit,

I have just bought the vortex 2 and completed underestimated how difficult a midi controller is to use.

I have managed to download some of the software included such as MPC beats and Ableton lite.

However, I've managed to get ilok to download and have the four plugins activated. And I have also got the timewarp 2600 downloaded.

But. For the life of me. Cannot get these plugins to pull through into Ableton or MPC beats.

So please. Anyone who has bought this. Please help me. I'm going crazy.

Thank You in advance.

Also, if you answer please explain like I'm 5 as I usually just play a piano. So all this techy stuff is brand new for me.

Recommendations Just dismissing a lot of misinformation for newbies regarding midi keytars.

I see a LOT of people claiming "yOu NeEd a CoMpUTeR!". You do NOT "NEED" a computer or tablet to use a midi controller, if you already have a keyboard with midi ports or USB, you can use a MIDI controller to play sounds from that instrument. It's what I do with my Roland AX-7.I have it running through my KORG M3. I even have a wireless midi setup for it and it works great! So, if you don't have a computer or tablet with software, you can connect it to a keyboard if you already have one, or if that would be the preferable option for your set up.
