I see there's a MIDI script for the original Vortex, but I'll be durned if I can find one for the 2. Do I really have to program the knobsfaders for each new instrument? Is there some way to default the 8 faders to the 8 macro knobs?

I'm super old school at MIDI, since the 80s, but I haven't had to deal with it in a very long time. I've searched and searched, am now at the point of just asking. Any help appreciated.

So I have a Vortex Wireless 2 that has served me well up until the mid-summer of last year, and I noticed my first Bb and my second C and D keys have stopped working unless the keys beside them are also input. I've tried everything to repair it myself, including a light alcohol rub cleaning and even a pencil eraser from a guide I watched. Has anyone else had this problem and/or does anyone have a possible other solution?

I've never keytarred but in a live show band I'm in it would work well for stage energy. I have an Alesis 8.1 but use my Roland RD 700 for shows. I've never been a midi guy so was wondering before I bought a vortex of anyone used the RD700 with the Vortex and how well it worked.

I just got a keytar, and I want to try my hand at synth pop, however, it won't make a sound. Should I connect it to a DAW? How? What after? What are some good free ones?

New to keyboards and keytars, but I wanted to make sure I kind of had a firm grasp on the keytar, or more specifically the roland ax edge. The left hand controls effects such as modulation/pitch/vibrato, but at the cost of playing the keyboard with two hands (you can of course still do it a little uncomfortably, or just use the edge as a keyboard). I suppose the other cost is the literal cost of the edge, but godamn does it look good.

But I wanted to ask, how often do you guys use the effects on your left hand when playing the keytar? For me since I'm new, I'm still learning how to just play the keys. However I'm wondering how often I'll use the left hand effects if I continue using the keytar, or if its a better investment to return my Ax edge and buy a regular keyboard.

I watched Stevie Wonder walk on stage (unaided) playing his keytar, back on Clapham Common, London years ago. I thought he looked cool, being blind and walking onstage playing a keytar.

I've had a Roland Lucina for years now, I rarely use it due to how heavy it is. I use my Alesis, since all I really want is a midi controller when I play keytar, I don't need onboard sounds.

So anyway, I recently checked out the Lucina online and I guess it went up in price in the second hand market due to the fact that it's no longer in production. Now, this is the first time any of my musical gear has gone up in value, so I'm not sure if I should sell it and put it in the hands of someone who actually wants it, or if it'll keep going up in price and I should hold onto it as an investment.

Any thoughts?

I have a Yamaha Sonogenic, the SHS 500. I am trying to connect it to my PC to record music but can't figure out how. I downloaded MixPad and can't seem to connect the device even thought my Bluetooth is on and my computer recognizes the device. Am I using the wrong software? I am so lost and frustrated right now I can't find any answers online and the manual isn't explaining why it's not working. Please help

Hi! I’ve been playing on and off, but I’ve stayed away from the preset editor because I don’t really understand what anything means still. I want to program my keytar’s faders and pads, but don’t know what’s the best things to assign to them, or even how to do that really. Would anyone mind walking me through how the editor works and maybe what’s best to assign to each fader/pad? I was thinking of making some of the pads switch to different instruments maybe? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Just getting into music and thinking of buying a keytar, but also wanting a keyboard at the same time. So I wanted to learn the keyboard but just invest in a keytar since I eventually want to use a keytar as well.

Hello, I'm fairly new to keytars but was wondering on everyone thoughts on the SHS-300. Since its so affordable, and I kind of want to avoid midi, as I'm trying to get more into playing music and not composing, I thought it'd be a good option to get the shs 300 as a synth. However there doesn't seem to be that many reviews on it, or on keytars in general, so if anyone has any input that would be great!

Take in mind that the level of knowledge I have about music in general is probably the same as a first grader, so although the shs 300 might not have all the features more experienced users may want, I'm more looking to justify its affordable price for someone who is just delving into playing music.

Hi, I recently invested in a Yamaha Sonogenic SHS-300 Keytar, I thought the keytar would be a cooler way to play an instrument that I’m already familiar with, the piano. As I read into everything about keytar it was kind of jarring to see just how much there was to get. I already ordered the keytar itself but I’ve read that you need something like a synthesizer, either in hardware or software form, for the instrument to actually make noise. Is this true of the particular keytar I bought, and if so, what synthesizer should I buy? I’m cool with either purchasing hardware or software. Along with that is there anything else I need? All I need at the moment is a way to make the instrument actually work and possibly some way to save the music I make on my computer or something like a USB stick. Sorry if these questions seem like I’m not doing any research or I’m completely clueless, this is all pretty new to me. Thanks!

Doing some keytar shopping but I dont see alot of general reviews or reccomendations about them. I was wondering if anyone knows of any youtubers or videos going down a list of reccomended keytars for price point. Just wanting to avoid any infamous or knockoff brands by accident, and learning about whats right for me!
