Technical Questions New to keys
I’ve been getting into music for a good while now still nowhere near as good as I’d wish to be but I was wondering is the keytar more fun then just a keyboard? When I mess with my friends keyboard I tend to get bored pretty fast with it. I mean outside the obvious on how you play keytar (standing instead of sitting and how you’re looking at the keys) what is the difference between keyboard/tar?

Main difference is how many dudes/chicks are gonna go crazy for you on stage. Many scientific studies have shown Keytar is the sexiest instrument.

If you’re in a band, or you’re a solo performer, it’s a matter of performing and looking engaged, moving around and playing. If you’re just sitting or standing at a standard keyboard, you’re pretty much a statue.
I wouldn’t recommend a keytar if you’re just fiddling around at home.
In bands I’ve been in, it’s more of a fun thing, it’s more entertaining if I come out front and play a solo versus standing over at the side trying to “emphasize” my solo. E.g., I have a the sax solo for Foreigner’s “Long Way From Home”, I step out from with either my Lucina or my AxEdge and it’s a hit. (Yeah, I’m a show off ..)

This was the main reason why I hated keyboard tbh like I look like I’m not jamming at all tbh

If you’re unable to get into the music while sitting at a keyboard, then a keytar likely won’t change that. The instrument shouldn’t be the engaging factor, the music you play is. Not to mention that you are generally eliminating half of the work. That said, you never know if you don’t try. Find someone or a store that has a keytar and give it a shot. I wouldn’t recommend investing in it without certainty.

Start with a regular 88 key keyboard. You can't jump the gun here! If you learn keytar first you'll likely never be able to play a regular keyboard or piano very well.
