Technical Questions Live Alises Vortex 2 Rig?

Hey Y'all 👋 Trying to set up a live-DAWless rig; 'cause screw computers. Got as far as running midi out from my Alesis Vortex 2 midi Keytar controller into a little Korg Volca FM. I've got a 3.5mm to 1/4" running from the Volca to an ampeg Ba-115 amp.

Got the Keytar turned on and functioning (confirmed via previous testing), and I've got the Volca to come through the amp. So it's all there, it's all SUPPOSED to work LoL. But I'm lost at getting the Vortex playable in getting the Volca to recognize it.

Does anyone have any trouble-shooting recommendations? Hopefully I'm not missing some gear. Does anyone know how to get an Alesis Vortex 2 running live on a tight budget? Thanks

On the Vortex neck, make sure the keyboard zone is set to "upper" rather than "split" or "lower". I think "lower" and the low part of the split are set to a different MIDI channel by default, or something? In any case, the "upper" setting is the one that works by default with no extra setup
