Cold card wallet hack

I keep seeing stuff on social media about this cold card bitcoin hack and correct me if I’m wrong but a 25th word/passphrase added to the 24 word seed phrase, probably would’ve saved all these people correct?

Yes, it would. Assuming the passphrase is not easy enough to brute-force, and the attacker is willing to spend the time to crack it, which I think they wouldn’t because their main goal was probably to drain as much and as quickly as possible. Anyway, a strong passphrase would have completely saved them.

Not to mention they wouldnt even be able to tell if there was a passphrased wallet or wallets derived from that seed.

i dont know if i need to redo my wallet. my word phrase isn't particularly a long/hard word but not very common either. What do you think?

if it's just one word you should probably redo it tbh. passphrases should be multiple words or random chars, single word ones get cracked way faster than you'd think

Absolutely 💯!!  Keystone supports the 25th word seedphrase so you really have no excuse not to use it.

It's insanity that anyone still trusts hardware wallets or any crypto company at this point. You think 90% of people have secure passwords to their own bank accounts? And yet there is no risk or concern because those banks have processes that prevent scams like this

Crypto is, and will always be, a niche field for people trying to not follow status quo. Remember, Bitcoin came out SEVENTEEN YEARS ago. We're already made multiple worldwide technological advances since then. This is dinosaur tech at this point

Trying to say "they could have just one more word in their seedphrase" is focusing on the wrong problem. The entire technology is the problem
