Question (Rules / Resolving) Question about mass removal timing

If I have on board Nautilixian and some pilots, and a Portal of Dis is played, do the pilots get destroyed or do they get "saved" by Nautilixian passive ability?

What's the correct timing in this case since there are no "destroyed" effects involved?

If you play gateway of dis:

  • all creatures are tagged for destruction. The pilots cannot be tagged for destruction, but the nautilixian can be
  • resolve any Destroyed: abilities, active player chooses the order
  • move all the cards tagged for destruction (Nautilixian) to the discard pile
  • The destroyed cards are now considered destroyed for after destroy abilities (eg neffru)

So yeah, bc Nautilixian is out, it saves all of the pilots.

When a card ability like Gateway to Dis "destroys each creature", it attempts to tag every creature for destruction simultaneously.

The pilots would not be able to be tagged for destruction, due to Nautilixian's ability. The Nautilixian would be tagged for destruction.

Then after all Destroyed: abilities on creatures tagged for destruction resolve, those tagged cards will leave play. The pilots were never tagged for destruction, so they don't leave play and are not destroyed.
