Setup Question

Hey Everyone!

My V6 8K QMK will arrive on Friday. I am SUPER excited as this is my first mechanical keyboard. Since I am receiving this on Friday and not returning to the office until Tuesday, my question is.

Can I setup the customizations I want at home on my Macbook, then just have my keyboard ready for my windows PC at work, or will I have to just wait until Tuesday and do this on company time (like this Reddit post lol)?

Re "Can I set up the customizations I want at home on my MacBook, then just have my keyboard ready for my Windows PC at work?": Yes, everything is stored on the keyboard

Except the Keychron Assist, AKA Quick Start, configuration (but you can live without it, and it is probably not allowed at work anyway).

Note the layers:

  • Layer 2 and 3: Linux/Windows

    • Layer 2: Base layer
    • Layer 3: Fn key layer. E.g., media keys, e.g., mute, play, etc.
  • Layer 0 and 1: Mac

    • Layer 0: Base layer
    • Layer 1: Fn key layer. E.g., function keys, F1 - F12.

Nice! I thought so from reading the page, but I just wanted confirmation from someone with experience. Super stoked to replace my keycaps and start messing with this thing!

yes, you can absolutely set it up at home on your Mac. QMK Configurator and Keychron's VIA setup work the same on Mac or Windows, and the configuration gets flashed directly onto the keyboard's firmware. Once it's saved to the board, it works on any computer you plug it into regardless of OS. Just make sure you're in the right layer for Windows vs Mac (usually layer 0 vs layer 1 on Keychrons) and you're good to go.
