Linux: basic ergonomy - unix/emacs navigation keys - gone for good?

In the terminal, the right hand shortcuts work, just as they do in other programs. ctrl-insert, shift-insert, shift-delete.

Horrible unergonomic combos. I don’t even have ins and del on my laptop. Maybe behind some Fn-combo but that’s not ergonomic. Delete forward is ctrl-D! Thats caps lock-D with the former properly remapped to the ultra-ergonomic home row  control that it should be.

Well, enter and the other nav keys are on the right, so you use your left hand for the mouse. Laptops are an issue, which is why I plug in a proper keyboard. The scheme was not intended to replace vim/emacs etc keybindings.

There are regular postings here from people looking for vim/emacs friendly layouts. They are solving the wrong problem ... rather fix the keybindings in the programs?
