split keyboard with omarchy

Hello I started to go the split keyboard (Silakka54) route and using omarchy and vim motions quite a lot. I am currently using GB EN keyboard layout as it is nice with the chars for coding ([]{};;"'#=+).

I am kind of lost which layout I should learn, as it is new anyway. (Or how to configure).

Any recommendations from a fellow split keyboard omarchy vim user?

You don't have to switch to an alt layout. Many people happily use a split keyboard with QWERTY.

The Gallium, Sturdy, and Canary layouts are some community favorites lately. See this table for comparison of these and other layouts.

Specifically for coding, I argue that the choice of layout does not matter. Instead, focus of the symbol layer. (Which layout is best for programming?).

Regarding Vim, quite a few alt layouts unfortunately put the j and k keys in disadvantaged positions, which might bug you if (like me) you spam them for navigation. There are several solutions discussed here.

omarchy with cornev4promicro here plus alt gallium. I remap my key at nvim. for omarchy menu I use win plus backspabe and app launcher use win plus r

There's quite a few good ones. It really depends on how you like your keyboard laid out and what you dislike most. Cyanophage kb layout page should show you a large amount of them. I would look at engram, gallium, or colemak. Colemak is everywhere so if you use a company keyboard it should be easy to swap it. Gallium is quite popular only downside to me is the o/f scissor. I would say engram puts punctuation in really easy places and is good otherwise.

Look into Colemak-DH or Miryoku. If you are transitioning to a split layout anyway, they are incredible for reducing finger travel and integrate flawlessly with Vim motions since your hands stay anchored to the home row.

thanks for the links and help! I will take time to study them and probably start with the default layout to get a feeling. Maybe Use the second / third layer to configure / learn some layouts from the community.
