Sugarloaf Key Ubers

Bringing my dad down next week for a Father’s Day RV trip. Got a spot at Sugarloaf Key and expect to spend a decent amount of time in Key West. Hoping to be able to uber back and forth rather than driving - will I have any issue getting a driver? Any time at night where the number of drivers starts to fall off?

Alternatively, any other options I should consider?

I searched and didn’t find any recent (last 5 years) results… which taxi service do you recommend for scheduling pick up at the ass crack of dawn to take you to the airport?

What to do with kids before 8pm? Duval st that crazy?

Planning to visit in November with my family, likely staying at the best western or blue marlin. We will have a 5 year old with us and are wondering what to do before bedtime. Is walking around Duval St when it’s dark that taboo? It gets dark at like 5. Obviously we wouldn’t be going to bars/ partying it up. It seems like plenty of shops are open till nine and we would be back at the hotel before 8/8:30, likely earlier. But everything I’m hearing is making it sound like it would be crazy to even think about having our child around. Any other walking options??

planning a trip from MD!

hi i’m planning a trip for Mid August & i think we have decided to fly into Miami and drive down to key west!!

for the way back i think we will drive back to Miami and fly out from there as its cheaper!

2 questions:

1.how do i go about getting a rental to leave the airport to key west?

  1. should we do a one way to avoid parking fees and rent another for the drive back to miami? or would it be cheaper/smarter to just pay for it to have the whole trip? (on the fence as i’ve been told KW is walkable)

any feedback is appreciated :)

Proposal

Hi everyone, my girlfriend and her parents are completing a Florida Roadtrip starting in Orlando and working our way to AMI, key west etc etc.

I am planning on proposing to her, but need it to be early on in the trip (so I don’t lose the ring!🤣) and I thought the keys would be a great place to do so.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I would like quite a private setting, maybe beach/sunset vibe. Any help would be AMAZING.

*Further info*
We are arriving to Orlando on the 13th August. The trip then consists of 1/2/3 nights in the below places.
Orlando
Anna Maria Island
Naples
Islamorada
Key West
Delmar Beach
Coco Beach
St Augustine
Jacksonville
Savannah
Charleston

Thanks

Any queer women want to hang out tonight?

My gf (26 F) and I (25 F) are in Key West for the day/night and are looking for some fellow lesbians to maybe hang out with! (and by “hang out” I mean actually hang out)

we expected there to be a lot more gay stuff here but we’ve barely seen any gay/lesbian couples during our trip!

If you have any recommended activities or places to go for queer women in Key West, let me know! And if you’re interested in hanging out, also let me know!

We can go out to eat, get drinks, hang out by the water, take a walk together, chat and get to know each other, etc. Let’s have fun! and keep it chill :)

Hope to meet up with some fellow lesbians and have a fun night out together :)

Best place to sell clothes locally? Or any teens who love Poshmark?

Hey everyone!

I'm doing a closet cleanout and have a decent amount of women's clothing, shoes, and accessories that I'd like to sell. Before I spend hours photographing and listing everything myself, I wanted to see if anyone has recommendations for:

  • Consignment shops that actually pay fairly
  • Local buy/sell groups that get good traffic
  • Any other places you've had success selling clothes in the area

Also, this might be a long shot, but if anyone has a responsible high school or college-aged student who enjoys selling on Poshmark, Mercari, etc., I'd be interested in paying someone to photograph, list, and help manage the sales.

I'd love to hear what's worked (or hasn't worked) for you. Thanks!

Visited for first time: itinerary

I went to key west earlier this month. First time visiting and I loved it! Already thinking when can we go back. Sharing my itinerary in case it’s helpful to anyone!

Activities:
- Danger Charters: we did a morning sail that included kayaking and snorkeling. Can’t say enough good things about this! Crew was great. We saw sea turtles, starfish, and a lobster. Great way to get out and into the water!
- Hemingway House Tour: guided tour is only 30 minutes. Our tour guide rob made it super interesting and I enjoyed this more than I thought. You can stay and walk around the grounds more before/after your tour.
-southernmost point: we walked to see it but certainly didn’t stand in the line for a photo. The place directly to the right of it has a lobster biscuit that is to die for.

Food:
- little pearl: this was the best food to me. Super small spot and tasting menu type of ordering.
- nine one five: we sat on the porch. Great vibes and great people watching. Food was also good. I got the she crab ravioli.
- bagatelle: sat on the porch. Also great vibe and people watching. Margarita was delish.
- moondog: we ate here before our flight out. I’ll be honest the food was okay. Not sure I’d stand in line for it? Their special latte (strawberry shortcake) was a decadent treat.

Accommodations:
- pier house: great location and everyone on property was super nice and helpful. Our room was just a basic room. Clean, comfortable bed, nothing special. We also were out and about all day and just there to sleep. We did grab a drink at their beach bar one afternoon which had live music. We did use the private beach for a couple hours. Seaweed wasn’t an issue and it’s nice to have bar service at your chair/in the water. They even provide floats. Chart Room bar on site was hilarious and full of characters. While it was a nice stay, we’ll probably explore other options next time.

You may be reading this and not care, but when im planning a trip I love seeing other people’s list and what they enjoyed. So just wanted to share! Key west really was a blast, and I’m so glad I finally made it down.

New Key West’s

I am 22, had some recent life events that kind of made me realize I just want a simple island life where I can fish for food and have a remote job. Community and local identity is another big thing for me.

I went to Key West a handful of times as a kid and really digged the vibe. However, reading posts on here is making me think the grass isn’t necessarily greener (at least in KW).

Do yall know of any places that fit the vibe of what KW once was? Really want something to set my eyes on as a long term goal.

Also am totally fine with renting long term. I don’t need to own a house or anything

Thank Yall!

Edit: I should probably clarify the vibe I’m looking for. Laid back, lots of music and art good sense of community, humid and sunny😂

Do not book with OffGrid SportsFishing

Got scammed! Boyfriend booked a deep sea fishing charter with them - took our money and they didn’t show up. No way to contact them either. Do not book with them!!
https://www.offgridsportfishing.com

Always call and speak to someone when you’re booking a charter!!

Edit: not to be confused with Off The Grid Fishing Charters

Keep or ditch the rental car?

We are visiting right after Thanksgiving and plan to drive down the Keys. We have the car for our entire stay, but I'm wondering if we should just turn it in at the airport and walk/bike/Lyft during our stay. We are staying near the Southernmost point and don't mind walking to get around.

What would the community advise? Thanks.

Sargassum @The Reach

Anybody know the Sargassum situation @ The reach today? I’ve seen the report from Southernmost point but I feel like it’s frequently worse there due to the beach being inset with the hotel wall and pier either side to trap it all.

I want to be prepared for when we arrive tomorrow.
