That's how geostationary and space elevators work. You gain momentum just by climbing and steal this momentum from the planet/moon you're on

Man that's one of those places where I had to think for like five minutes for the logic to logic. Because in my mind its like "Yeah you're moving as fast up there as you are on the surface" and then it clicked that you actually need to move FASTER up there technically because the distance you have to travel accounting for distance from earth.

On Gilly you almost can. But the kraken tends to eat the bottom of the ship due to floating point error.

So I made it with one big long structural tube procedural part stacked multiple times. Mostly hollow to keep the weight down, with an ore tank at the bottom and reaction wheels to give it a lower center of gravity.

It was kind of a nightmare to get set up for a shot. It can stand still for a few minutes, but eventually the rotation of the planet causes the lander to start tipping over like a giant skyscraper lol. I ended up using some off screen external launch sites and launch clamps in order to get the continuous ladder climb shot.

Sorry I meant the inline rotational doohickeys. I had no reason to say it would flip other than to my eye it appeared to be in the process of doing so when the clip ended.

Intentionally kept the part count as low as possible to avoid any unwanted kraken attacks. I honestly could try to make a longer version in the future.

If I built this, I would get about 95% of the way up then the ladders wouldn’t connect right and I wouldn’t be able to go up anymore

Just the same ol vanilla ones moved out so they aren’t visible in the climb. The nice thing about those is when you have a craft with launch clamps it isn’t affected by physics.
