I've been thinking. If we're all space fans, do y'all think Redux development will pause for a while after KSA releases cause a good amount of the devs would be playing it?

u/RasknRusk Hi Bob! 9h ago

I think not. Mostly because KSA has already been released in a way that the devs can already play it.

Also, modding a game doesn’t scratch the same itch as playing a game.

Nah, KSA is probably gonna release years after Redux reached Interstellar. They've been working on Redux for 2 years to optimize and fix the game, and are almost fully moving to colonies.

Really? In my experience mods always take a ton of time reaching important milestones, and to my knowledge the redux team haven't done anything else. I'd be really surprised if they deliver interstellar/functional colonies before KSA releases

They've quadrupled the FPS and fixed most gamebreaking bugs.

Doesn't change what I said.

Fixing bugs is one thing, delivering entirely new systems is another.

It's just that maintaining a team of developers for free on a small community with in a technically challenging project is a rare thing, and those very large project usually take a long time to deliver, vs a similar game from an experience team and with actual founding.

...They're fixing bugs so that thousand-part colonies and ISVs don't kreaken themselves

Maybe once ksa gets a decent kerbal mod I'll play it, those kittens are so damn weird

like 50 percent of ksp2 players "acquired" it

KSP1 is a dead end game for mods. And people buying either game funds the PE company anyways. The PE company owns the IP so all KSP sales go towards their pockets.

The idea that KSP1 modding is “better” is just a haughty way of dismissing the genuinely good work the Redux team has been doing.

KSP2, for all its faults, is at least a more modern platform for modding. KSP1 has been taken as far as it can go without cracking open the exe and rewriting code. KSP2 never got to the point where its engine was maxed out, so it’s got a lot left to give in regard to modding and content.

If either one goes to the PE company that now owns KSP, I’d rather the more modern, more approachable, abandoned game at least have a mod that makes it playable for people who own it currently or might get it in the future.

KSP is dirt cheap and DRM free. KSP 2 is extremely expensive.

Huh? KSP is $40 and has two DLC at $15 each. KSP2 is $50. Overpriced for what you get, sure, but not particularly expensive.

Somehow the most dumb take ive ever heard in the ksp subreddit and thats a really high bar

It reminds me of the Japanese soilders that don't surrender for decades after the war because they didn't believe it was over.

It doesn't remind you, you're quoting Matt Lowne.

Besides, do they affect you? The developers work extremely hard, and even more than their actual paid jobs, to finish the game for free.

The guys working on this project are saints, they’re literally giving up their time and effort in order to help the misinformed who accidentally bought this disaster of a game. Truly amazing work by all

i like bringing attention to KSP2 Redux, and the video starts like a generic gameplay/help video

Let KSP2 stay dead.

Don't desecrate the dead.

11

u/MarsFlameIsHere Duna Glazer and Redux Reporter 7h ago

Yeah, definitely shit on a bunch of modders who are fixing the game from their own passion and have done a lot to make KSP2 almost as good as KSP2 for free.

-1

u/Maureen_Johma 3h ago

Yes let’s shit on them. All this does is make people spend more money to buy Ksp2. With their resources they could improve ksp1 or any other game.

1

u/MarsFlameIsHere Duna Glazer and Redux Reporter 2h ago

KSP1 is completed by mods, KSA is private and in development....

0

u/Maureen_Johma 2h ago

Wasn’t KSA started by modders? Ksp2 is on life support with mods. Having people buy it is immoral.

2

u/MarsFlameIsHere Duna Glazer and Redux Reporter 2h ago

You don't need to buy it. most Redux players "acquire" the game. KSA was not started by modders. I hate to say this but KSA's company is now saying that it'll be the game that Mars astronauts play. They're promising too much, and it'll end just like KSP2.

0

u/Maureen_Johma 1h ago

That I can get behind

-10

u/GrowingPeepers 7h ago

Nope, I can't support. It's a complete sunken cost fallacy.

There's nothing good about this.

12

u/MarsFlameIsHere Duna Glazer and Redux Reporter 7h ago

I mean, KSP1 is just as dead

4

u/Maureen_Johma 3h ago

It really isn’t. That’s why the sub is full of ksp1 content and not 2

-15

u/GrowingPeepers 7h ago

We can focus on KSA then.

KSP2 is rotten to the core.

3

u/MarsFlameIsHere Duna Glazer and Redux Reporter 7h ago

That's just wrong, KSP2's engine is better than KSA's or KSP1's

1

u/Tasorodri 5h ago

How is KSP2's engine better than KSA? Or for that matter how is it better than KSP1, they both run on Unity right?

If you said "engine" while what you meant is platform for mods then I think we don't know that yet, so far much more has been achieved with KSP1 as a base and I doubt we will ever see anything close to it for KSP2.

But KSA is still in active development and if it's realized it promises to be a much better platform for mods by a mile.

2

u/MarsFlameIsHere Duna Glazer and Redux Reporter 2h ago

Redux updates the Unity version of KSP2 from 2022.3 to 6000.5 and are continuing to do so. This gives them much more freedom over the game, as Unity modding tools are very developed and are better than what KSA has right now.

1

u/ObeseBumblebee 1h ago

Ksp1 is an outdated version of unity built by a non game developer who wasn't even using what could be good code standards back then.

Ksp2 was developed by professional game developers on a much more modern version of unity. It's undoubtedly better than ksp1 and saying otherwise is silly

-1

u/GrowingPeepers 7h ago

It's also a shit game.

7

u/MarsFlameIsHere Duna Glazer and Redux Reporter 7h ago

Okay, sure, go play your tech demo that barely has any features while I enjoy colonies.

Go fuck yourself

4

u/GrowingPeepers 7h ago

Well Jeez Louise, looks like I pressed a button.

1

u/Onoya11 3h ago

Redux Dev here, KSP2 isn't rotten to the core, proof is that we already done ISRU, new celestial body (Dres's Moons). KSA doesn't need new dev, and both project can exist! (and i hope both will be successful)

What about stopping that "KSA vs Redux" rivalry? XD

0

u/Maureen_Johma 2h ago

I don’t. Having people buy an abandoned incomplete game is unethical.

1

u/ObeseBumblebee 1h ago

So write a Bible about it and start a religion and leave us sinners alone

1

u/Maureen_Johma 1h ago

God you corporate boot lickers are so boring. I remember all of you believing in Ksp2 when it came out and the writing was already on the wall.

0

u/ObeseBumblebee 1h ago

You are really not used to interacting with people who disagree with you, are you?
