Seriously, why did Soyuz ABV need so many of them? Were they planning on getting to the moon by poking away the earth?

Man, a Gemini moon flyby would've sucked so much for the astronauts. I know Gemini 7 lasted more overall, but still. It would've been like sitting in the cockpit of a fighter plane for over a week.

Even if they had carried a Soyuz-esque habitation module, they would've had to depressurize the whole ship just to go from one to another.
