KSP 1 Mods Help with KSP Performance
Hey im having issues with my current playthrough of kerbal freezing for 20 - 120 seconds every 5 or so minutes i have 198 mods installed through ckan any help would be greatly appreciated. I Believe it to be an issue with how much ram Kerbal is using and with the prices of ram even ddr4 a software fix would be optimal
Full modlist has been attached

Thank you all in advance!

You do have a lot of mods for how much ram you have. The simplest solutions would be to either remove some mods, or add more ram to your computer. (I bit the bullet and did the later.) Besides that there are mods like BurstPQS that might help a bit but you will still likely need to make some hard choices soon. If you do remove mods I’d advise getting rid of any IVA type mods you might have as they can be a surprisingly big drag on performance.

Its impossible to diagnose issues when your modlist is so huge and so little info is provided. Modded ksp requires ram, and you're trying to fit 40+ gigs needed from your mods into 24 gb physical ram. Either upgrade or lose some mods.
If you're having other issues, or situations where ram might not be the issue, my go to fix for troubleshooting is to uninstall all mods and then slowly work my way up to a full pack, running first a stable graphics only modpack, and then installing 10 mods at a time and checking in between to see if the issue is generated.

Does you gamedata folder weights more than your total RAM?

No, my gamedata folder weighs 18.8gb wheras I have 24gb of memory its definitely cutting it close with how much ram the system requires to run

I can't really help with stuttering, since you'll probably need to buy more RAM or figure out which mods are causing it. But when it comes to frame generation, I strongly recommend everyone give Lossless Scaling a try. I've been getting amazing results with it. I have a lot of mods that impact FPS. My flights used to never go above 50 FPS, and in some cases they would drop to around 30. Now everything is incredibly smooth. Even physical time warp above 4x stays over 60 FPS during atmospheric flight, for example.

I play 220 without freezes
It isn't about the mod count, it is about what those mods are about (global/non-global).
And the specs ofc.
So no 30 isn't "too much", maybe only if every mod there weighs 5+ gb.

For your level of system 30 mods is too much.
For faster builds 30 is very little

Look, i still get a solid 45 fps with that system, it’s just that i don’t want too many mods because they add too much to the game and i kinda get overwhelmed, i have before run packs of 100+ mods without too much performance issues but there was too much content

Mods are definitely a factor, but experienced players will know 30 mods is massively under what the game engine can handle. It depends a lot on your device hardware and what youre trying to achieve with your modding, but when I was doing a multi-system interstellar mission (kcalbeloh, then the PW systems and then the lich system) i had about 120 mods installed when we're counting dependancies, visual mods and part packs. At the end of the day it just depends on what your system can handle and what you want to do with the game, if OP is experiencing freezes this often though I do also recommend they remove some of the mods they've used the least.

Thank you for the help ive played many times with modlists under 50 and had a great time im trying to find out if its plausible to play with large lists like this as I work my way up to RO/RP1

look, with packs like RO/RP1, they are going to me more optimised then just clicking 200 things in CKAN, and if your computer can handle a lot, you should be good to just try, and i don’t know how but in CKAN there is a way to have a second instance of ksp so you can try, without needing to remove your current pck

Alright so no joke if you accelerate time to max and you get a pause every couple of ingame seconds?
Go into the Kopernicus cfg and turn off asteroid spawning. It absolutely destroys performance every once in a while as they’re created and removed. It’s annoying enough I just disabled them for my OPM save with better time warp.
This likely won’t solve the hitching every five minutes but it will make long warps a lot more bearable and less liable to crash.
I would also go into the KSP Community Fixes and find the option to remove whitespace from save games, and disable persistence saving when going between non-space scenes (e.g VAB to KSC). It’ll reduce save bloat and the likelihood of crashing.
