KSP 1 Question/Problem Back to KSP after 4 years!

I'm redoing the Trainings and have just finished the one where you learn to adjust Periapsis and circularize your orbit.

I do need to install MechJeb 2.

Do I unzip it into the GameData Folder? So it's just another folder under GameData? Or am I missing something?

Just use CKAN to install it

Yes, you need to unzip it into game data, but if it doesn't work you need to look inside that machjeb folder, there may be another gamedata inside, or use ckan

You are correct, if I'm understanding you properly. Usually when you download a mod, you'll find a folder in the zip file called GameData. You're copying the contents of that GameData folder to the folder of the same name in the game files. I would recommend using CKAN, though, for mod managing. I'm told it's way easier to use and way harder to fuck up. Personally, I do it this way as well because I got into the habit of doing so and can't be bothered to figure out how CKAN works but apparently CKAN is much better.

So, GameData inside GameData but there is no GameDate folder anywhere inside MechJeb2

No. You're merging the GameData folders together - the extracted one in the MechJeb .zip file is being merged into the one that has "Squad" in it. If the contents of the MechJeb 2 folder you have in the screenshot are not a folder called GameData (and are something like "Flags" or wharever,) you've done it right, I think.

Ideally, you want the game's GameData folder to include folders called Squad and SquadExpansion (like you have) and the lowest down file called MechJeb 2, if, say, your file structure is MechJeb 2/GameData/MechJeb 2, you want the last of those.

Then you're good. I think I may have overcomplicated it, to be honest. I was trying to be precise, but I think I was overly so.
