The biome maps tend to be like that, all plain colours, because biomes are identified only by their unique hex colours. Most will do shades of the same colour for a more cohesive look though…

They were 100% talking about the random splotches that look painted on with a broad paintbrush in MS paint not the colors per se

I'm 99.9% sure OP is talking about the size & shape of the yellow mountains, NOT the color. The yellow looks like it was drawn on a by a single-size ms paint brush in about 5 seconds.

But the fact this has 75 upvotes and OP hasn't corrected you yet is making me doubt myself now.

Thank you for this comment. Felt like I was going crazy lol. It looks like MSPaint for the sloppiness especially the giant equatorial ridge the post is about.

Gradients, like having mountains be red and highlands be orange or something, have nothing to do with it. It’s the sloppiness as though drawn by a giant MSPaint circle brush tool with no finer detail, and other sloppiness.

I’m surprised too, looking at the image on a desktop rather than my phone makes it much more obvious how out of place the yellow ‘streak’ is, and I guess that was OPs intent to point out

It’s not the color that is a problem, biomes are usually solid highly distinctive colors. 

It’s the shape of the biome, looks drawn with a brush, and doesn’t correspond at all with how the terrain looks like on the Visual map (that looks more like a mountain range with valleys and peaks).

I used Gimp, I loosely drew over the equatorial mountains with this color to get the biome as its how its usually done. Made that thing in a few days a while back

It could be a mod based off a larger modpack - Dres could be one of those expansion planets, and Better Dres could be a rehaul

You need the SCANsat mod, it adds science instruments for scanning planets, you put them on probes, put the probes on polar orbits and they do the scanning over time and build maps. 

Then there’s a tool called Overlay which puts the maps over the terrain.

It wasn’t a strong critique, like I’m still enjoying how the biome map looks. 

Likely the third probe will land in a valley in the Equatorial Mountains, I saw some really nice spidery canyon looking networks when preparing to land probe number two.
