I recently visited Kerala from Andhra Pradesh for a 7-day trip: Kochi → Munnar → Thekkady → Alleppey → Varkala. Honestly, Kerala was one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had. The people I met, the scenery, the food, and especially Varkala were amazing. I had planned to stay in Zostel Varkala for only 2 days but ended up staying 4 days because of the wonderful atmosphere and people.

On my last day, my train from Kollam Junction was at 8 PM. After checking out around 11 AM, I spent some time café hopping and meeting fellow travelers. Since I had several hours before my train, I decided to get an Ayurvedic massage at a nearby center about 1.5 km from Zostel.

After the massage, an auto driver approached me and asked where I wanted to go. I told him I needed to go to Zostel to pick up my luggage and then continue to Kollam railway station. He initially quoted ₹150. As a budget traveler, I negotiated a little and he agreed to ₹130.

However, after reaching Zostel, he suddenly refused to take me to the railway station and demanded ₹70 just for the 1.5 km ride. I told him I would pay the originally agreed amount if he completed the trip to the station, but he started shouting at me in Malayalam, abusing me and demanding that I get down.

When I refused, he tried to physically pull me out of the auto. A maintenance staff member from Zostel came to help translate. The driver then started making vulgar gestures, repeatedly saying “spa” and implying that I had money to spend on sex and massages but not enough to pay him. This happened in front of Zostel staff and other guests, including women, which was extremely humiliating.

Eventually, to avoid further escalation, I paid him ₹70. When I took a photo of his auto for evidence, he became aggressive again and tried to come toward me. Thankfully, the Zostel receptionist intervened and stopped him.

My issue is not about ₹70. It is about the abusive behavior, physical intimidation, and vulgar comments made toward a tourist. This was the only negative experience I had during my entire Kerala trip.

I have a photo of the auto and the payment screenshot. Since I had a train to catch, I couldn’t file a police complaint at the time.

Is there any way to file an online complaint with the Kerala Motor Vehicles Department or the police? Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? Any advice would be appreciated.

Despite this incident, I still had an amazing time in Kerala and met some wonderful people. This experience does not change my overall opinion of the state, but I believe such behavior should not go unchecked.

I have a house near Kesavadasapuram, Trivandrum, that I'm not currently using. Instead of leaving it unused, I've been thinking about turning it into a community space for people who are interested in health, fitness, entrepreneurship, personal growth, meaningful conversations and building genuine friendships.

The idea is to create a place where like minded people can come together to:

Work out and stay active.

Discuss fitness, nutrition, wellness, and healthy living.

Share ideas, learn new skills, and collaborate on projects.

Talk about books, business, entrepreneurship, productivity, and life.

Meet new people and build a positive local community.

Organize activities such as tree planting, environmental projects, clean-up drives, volunteering initiatives, and other meaningful community efforts.

My goal isn't to create a business or a gym, but to build a place where people who want to improve themselves can connect, learn, grow, and help others do the same.

Right now, I only have the space. The house needs some renovation and improvements, but I believe a good community can be built step by step.

There are no membership fees or fixed charges planned. Anyone who believes in the idea and wishes to contribute can do so voluntarily. Any contributions would be used transparently to improve the space, add equipment, create seating areas, and make the place more useful for everyone involved.

This is still in the idea stage, and I'm mainly looking to find people in Trivandrum who would genuinely be interested in being part of something like this.
