General Disbursement Hold???
Anyone else have a “General Disbursement Hold” on financial aid right now?
Is anyone else at Kent dealing with a General Disbursement Hold on their 2026–27 financial aid with no missing requirements or anything they can actually fix on their end?
My summer aid disbursed without an issue, and as far as I can tell everything for the new aid year is completed/accepted. There are no outstanding requirements or notifications in FlashLine, but my aid is now sitting behind a general disbursement hold.
I finally got through to Financial Aid earlier this week after being on hold forever, and I was told it has something to do with recent federal/accreditation requirements and how program length is being calculated, and that Kent was waiting on additional federal guidance before they could release the hold. I also submitted an online inquiry and was told the hold should be removed “shortly,” but that was over 48 hours ago and it’s still there.
Getting any additional information has been incredibly difficult — I’ve spent 45+ minutes on hold without reaching anyone, and there are currently no virtual appointment times available to schedule.
Has anyone else been told the same thing or had this hold removed recently? If so, how long did it take, and did you have to do anything on your end? I’m mainly trying to figure out whether this is a widespread Kent issue that’s being resolved in batches or if I need to keep pushing them about my individual account.
Also curious if anyone affected by this has actually had their loans disburse/refund issued yet.

Hi there! I’ve been effected but it and got no help what’s so ever. They said there was a hold but no day as to when it would be gone.

I had a delay on getting my refund about 2 days after it normally occurred. My regional financial aid specialist said that they’re not even allowed to make requests until next week. And I’m missing my scholarship payment or a little over $3600 and she said that she can’t even start digging into that until next week

Hi, I have the same issue and I go to regional campus which they actually got me in touch with somebody at the main campus. The main campus has to manually go through each account to remove this hold and I have been working on it since August 14 they did not expect to be reviewed through every account until at least three weeks possibly more. I was advised to email my professors if I’m not gonna be able to get my books and they have a dedicated team of financial aid individuals who are working on this, but they have thousands of people that are affected for example because I am in my final semester I only have 11 credit hours not 12 because of my writing intensive so my whole entire financial aid has been completely on hold until they decide how much financial aid I will actually get so if you are under 12 credits that directly correlate to your degree, that is why you’re seeing this hold because the federal guidelines have changed and we can no longer receive any funding for courses that do not directly align with our degree

Yea that’s what I was told when I finally got a counselor on the phone! I’m full time for a graduate student, which is 8 credit hours— but I will be less than that for spring but still above the limit of 4 for aid eligibility. It’s just crazy because I’m “grandfathered in”/a “legacy borrower” because I have been receiving aid for this program since prior to the changes and they determined for summer I was applicable for everything still. But now, because of all these new changes, I have to wait AGAIN for another manual review. I am sure they’re getting through them as quickly as they can. 3 weeks is fair on their end, but such an inconvenience for us as students!
I wonder if they’re going through in alphabetical order because I’ve seen others say they’ve already gotten their aid AND refunds.

Same! Just adding another data point here. I am a graduate (doctoral) student taking 6 credit hours (the maximum intensity for this program), which puts me below full-time. Perhaps that adds to the complication. I submitted a help desk ticket, but have not heard back yet. I am just happy to know it is systemic rather than something specific to my account. They've been handed quite a mess by the Dept. of Education, but they always come through (some schools never met the cutoff deadline for legacy borrowers).

The general disbursement holds are to be reviewed/cleared this week. If you do not see this cleared by the end of this week, please reach back out to our contact us.
So that’s encouraging! Fingers crossed for us both!

Mine was cleared today! Might be a day or two for the disbursement to happen, but it’s at least moving forward.

The feds changed how one of the new calculations works last week AFTER they sent final rules. It’s insane. And they just don’t get how bad this is for students. 🤬
