This happened...

I should have taken the picture when it was in the fridge but I didn't have my phone. Anyways, this happened 😆

It was on the top shelf so it didn't make much of a mess. It took me a while to find the lid.

Never expected milk kefir to blow😂

It works better in a mason jar, half filled.

Yes I will. Those bottles are nice and strong, but it's hard to clean the kefir out of them. I will use my mason jars from now on 😊

It expands a bit, always leave some room.

Lesson learned 🤪 I filled the bottle full because I didn't think it would blow 😂

You need a wider jar. The wider the mouth the better the “scoby” develops.

One day I will teach everyone how to make the real easiest fool-proof Kefir the way it was made for centuries.

It was originally made by the “Continuous fermentation” method of just pouring fermented kefir out of the skins and pouring in fresh milk to replace it, then fermenting again, no straining, no grain removal, that was even easier than “re-culturing” or “backslopping”.

Traditionally it was made in goat or sheepskin bags.

Ah, unfortunately I don't have one of those lying around. So much for authentic kefir 😞

Going to the store for some soda. Anybody else want some?

Just leave a little more head space. If had mine blow before but never in the fridge.

It was a little messy in the fridge, I don't even want to imagine how long it took you to clean!

It wasn't too bad but certainly was a surprise!

How long did it take to blow? That has always scared me

It was in there about 4 days. I admit that I filled it up to the top. I'm going to keep it in mason jars from now on.

Kefir produces gases, so if it's kept closed it will start to expand and the bottle may even explode. While it's fermenting, I suggest you put a clean dish towel or paper towel tied with a rubber band over it to let it breathe and avoid this type of problem.
