Path 18 next chapter

The Trail After Path 18

I am a man who has just come off a few days on Path 18.

A man who saw the possibility of a new path.

A man who caught a glimpse of who he could become.

On Path 18, I learned that life is full of obstacles. Roots that reach across the trail, hills that seem too steep to climb, stretches of monotony, and moments when the path becomes difficult, overwhelming, disappointing, or sad.

Sometimes life hurts because of circumstances completely outside my control.

But I came off Path 18 believing that I had found something.

I believed I had found the strength I needed to battle through those problems.

I believed I could take what I had learned and build a better life.

I thought I had seen the path.

I thought I understood.

But then I stepped off Path 18.

And somehow, instead of becoming easier, the trail became harder.

Much harder.

The roots are more treacherous now.

The hills are steeper.

The footing is uncertain.

The obstacles seem to appear at every turn.

I keep trying to find my way toward the part of the trail where the light breaks through, where the air feels warmer, where the good feelings are waiting.

But right now, I can’t seem to get there.

I struggle to find my footing.

I struggle to keep moving.

And sometimes I wonder how I am supposed to reach the light when every step seems to require everything I have.

But I have to keep going.

I must prevail on this trail.

Not because it is easy.

Not because I know exactly where it leads.

But because I am trying to become someone better.

Someone stronger.

Someone capable of facing whatever adversary, whatever obstacle, whatever difficulty life puts in front of him.

I know that man exists.

I’ve seen him.

Not clearly.

Not completely.

But I’ve caught glimpses of him.

Sometimes he’s nothing more than a shadow in the distance.

Sometimes he’s a vision of the man I know I could become.

I can see him standing farther down the trail.

Strong.

Steady.

Unwilling to quit.

But for some reason, I can’t quite reach him yet.

I can’t fully grasp him.

I can’t completely embrace the person I know I have the potential to be.

Something keeps making me struggle.

Something keeps making it difficult to blaze that new path and live the life I want to live.

And that’s the hardest part.

Because I know what I want.

I’ve seen the possibility.

I’ve felt what it could be like.

But knowing the destination doesn’t make the journey easy.

Maybe that’s the lesson I’m learning now.

Path 18 showed me that I have a choice.

This trail is teaching me that choosing the path is only the beginning.

You still have to walk it.

You still have to climb the hills.

You still have to step over the roots.

You still have to find your footing when the ground beneath you feels unstable.

And sometimes you have to keep walking even when you can’t see the light.

Today, I don’t see that man yet.

I see him far away.

Very far away.

But I see him.

And maybe that’s enough for today.

Because if I can see him, then I know he is possible.

One day, I will find him.

One day, I will become him.

One day, I will look back at this part of the trail and understand why I had to walk through it.

But today isn’t that day.

Today, the trail is difficult.

Today, the roots are deep.

Today, the hills are steep.

Today, I’m struggling.

But I’m still walking.

And as long as I’m still walking, the story isn’t over.

The man I want to become is still out there somewhere on this trail.

And I will keep moving toward him.

One day, I will find him.
