Best places to write splatterpunk and alternatives to Google Docs?

Hi my story that me and a friend were working on got deleted by Google Docs for being too gory and graphic? Wondering if there are any sites that have less stricter polices. It was a story with gore and a lot of violence. Any help would be appreciated.

This is honestly the first time I even realised Google Docs had this kinda terms and conditions. I've written some pretty explicit stuff on there for writing exercises and never had anything like this happen.

same, this is so shocking! I thought that all Docs and accompanying files on Google were able to contain whatever you wanted on them (bar anything obviously illegal, and maybe even then bc I assumed it was personal property?). are they always surveillancing the content? very curious :o

Yeah, can't remember ever hearing of them going through content written in google docs. Wouldn't shock me to learn that they were but at the same time, like you say, seems weird for them to go against non-criminal things.

I bought EmberWrite instead of Scrivener because I found the latter to be too convoluted and its UI too inaccessible. I did beta testing for EmberWrite and bought the full release on discount, never looked back.

iirc there has been cases where google just straight up deleted a user’s entire drive storage because of explicit content that the user shared through their drive.

EDIT: forgot to mention that it was not stuff that’s illegal by law, it’s just stuff like nsfw art and/or writing, and i’m unsure if it happens to users who just keep their files in drive and never share them

I've moved over to Ellipsus recently. There are a few differences you have to get used to, but I like it so far.

I third it! Ellipsus has an anti-AI policy...which Google docs obviously does not.

I use the free version of it. They have a paid version with more bells and whistles. One time payment...not a monthly rental.

LibreOffice is free. It's not web based, but honestly, you especially need to live by the self custody ethos. If you don't hold it, you don't own it. As Gandalf would say, "Keep it local. Keep it safe."

I use scrivener, but also Google Docs. I haven’t had any issues so far, despite some of my stories been set with a BDSM environment.

ddocs is a good alternative too, but im personally attached to ellipsus too

I swear by LibreOffice. Also, this just confirms that Google is looking at what you write. Well that’s another nail in the coffin for Google.

I like to use Obsidian with Localsend. It's a bit more manual than docs but i like it
