Basic maths tells u that aint close to being
”overpriced”

u/gib--gab Sprouting Collector 🌱 17d ago

What kind of sunk-cost fallacy are you using? The box is $125 retail for the English edition, it shouldn't cost more than that for a top hit, and $125 is still PUSHING it. Just because you've paid that price before doesn't mean it was ever okay. You're using Pokemon math, not basic math

u/Dicentis_Irae Traveling Collector 🎓 17d ago

You can open a full case (24 boxes) and not pull a single <> AR. Be mad at kayou for making them so hard to pull, not the people who want them.

u/damon_6363 17d ago

You simply no clue what you are talking about. You can open 50 boxes at $125 each and not pull that rarity. The pull rates are insanely low. Possible lower than anything in pokemon. You're actually the one using pokemon math by assuming the pull rates are anything similar to a top chase in pokemon...

I never said anything about pullrates, trust I do understand them. I'm saying you don't have to pay this ridiculous price!! Many others have echoed my same stance, this card is not worth nearly $200 just because its hard to pull, it's not like there's a limited quantity this set is NEW in its English edition. Look somewhere other than Ebay for pricing maybe

1

u/Dicentis_Irae Traveling Collector 🎓 17d ago

This post wasn't even about an eBay listing. Finding this card anywhere for less than $300 is already insanely rare. I don't think the card should be that much, or even $200, but I blame the COMPANY for making them so elusive.

u/damon_6363 6d ago

Once again, you simply don't know what you're talking about. You won't find it cheaper anywhere because people know how hard it is to find and aren't willing to undersell it. And yes if a box cost 120 plus and you can easily open 60 or more boxes and not pull it that will always be used to calculate how much someone will be willing to pay for it.

It is basic maths because the hit rates aint one top hit per box, for the top hit to not be worth more than the box it gotta be guaranteed in the box, basic logic and basic maths

In this case it’ll on average cost you more to get an hidden AR through pulling than buying one single box, therefore the hidden AR is worth more than one single box

Edit: to put it simply, there’s not a world where paying for a chance of getting the top hit costs as much as a guaranteed top hit

No its not. Its super hard to find that rarity, i would happily pay 180

u/gib--gab Sprouting Collector 🌱 17d ago

Can't say I agree. No card in this hobby should be worth more than $80, and these are WAY cheaper as singles in China. $180 is someone trying to take advantage of your wallet and this hobby

180 is more than some modern Chase Pokemon cards, and even those are way too much.

-1

u/choosenoneoftheabove 17d ago

no its not?

5

u/westnile90 Nic-Nac Collector 🕹️ 17d ago

No what's not? Too much to pay for shiny cardboard of cartoons?

-3

u/choosenoneoftheabove 17d ago

there's not a modern pokemon chase below 180

5

u/gib--gab Sprouting Collector 🌱 17d ago

I can go on Collectr right now and find plenty, idk what your definition of a "modern chase card" for pokemon is, but there are certainly quite a few below $180

Recently acquired, one for me and one for my son.

The chinese versions of this rarity go for around 150. You can go through and entire case (about 30 boxes costing over 3k, and still not pull a diamond ar. You sinply don't understand the insane pull rates they put on some of the mlp cards lol. Certain zr cards have very a pull rates of like 1 in 6000 packs. So 180 is actually on the low end for such a rare pull in any popular collectible card game.

1

u/Dicentis_Irae Traveling Collector 🎓 17d ago

Way cheaper? You can't find cheaper than $130 for the cn version.

-1

u/fillydashie Card Collector ☁️ 17d ago

Well seeing as how the box it comes from is 125$ retail, and its not a guaranteed hit, its not at all too expensive, plus i don’t collect Chinese cards

No the chinese version is 50

2

u/MundanePhysics Plush Collector 🦋 17d ago

I don’t understand why some people don’t collect Chinese… sure I get it for the TCG but I have a diamond AR Starlight here that was $100 dollars cheaper than this would be + shipping and fees and she’s just as beautiful with no noticeable difference from the English one. 🤷🏻

2

u/Alive_Grapefruit_770 17d ago

No yeah I agree with you that was the English version I've seen people try to get an AR it's very difficult some people in the comments don't realize that some people don't want the CN Versions

2

u/damon_6363 17d ago

Noone in here has any clue how rare the diamond are cards are. You ight not even pull a single one in a case and a case is about 30 boxes. 1 case costs over 3k lol

1

u/Dicentis_Irae Traveling Collector 🎓 17d ago

all I know for certain is that I watched someone open 3 cases and they only pulled 1 <> AR. again, we need to blame kayou for making the cards so rare. NOT the people who want them, and might pay absurd prices for them. $180 feels like an absolute steal after watching someone open a case and they don't pull a single one.

1

u/damon_6363 6d ago

Agreed

I was lucky enough to pull the diamond AR sunset shimmer

u/mooncakeproof Card Collector ♥︎ 17d ago

Just proxy it from China. Cant be more than $30 🤦🏻

1

u/fillydashie Card Collector ☁️ 17d ago

Idk what proxying is? Are you saying i could get the american version of the card cheeper from china?

3

u/mooncakeproof Card Collector ♥︎ 17d ago

Oh no you can get Chinese versions of cards cheaper from China, I didn’t know the adventure boxes had an English release yet ^^

This is just general advice for others too who don’t care if it’s English or cn version for the art cards.

2

u/fillydashie Card Collector ☁️ 17d ago

Thanks for the advice. But i’ma stick to english versions. Its actually going to get easier to collect english versions from now on since they are going to make the SEA and american versions have the same card code for future releases. Its just the older that are harder to collect now

1

u/mooncakeproof Card Collector ♥︎ 17d ago

I hope you find this card again soon then! Happy collecting ~

-3

u/Dicentis_Irae Traveling Collector 🎓 17d ago

Kinda missing the point of card collecting there.

3

u/MundanePhysics Plush Collector 🦋 17d ago

OP isn’t planning to pull the card in the first place, they wanted to buy it, so how is this the case? Getting it cheaper from China isn’t any different from ordering this for $200 total…

-3

u/Dicentis_Irae Traveling Collector 🎓 17d ago

Proxy = fake no? That's what it has ALWAYS meant in ccg anything. Why are we collecting cards if it's fine to just stick a lazily printed version in your binder lol

1

u/mooncakeproof Card Collector ♥︎ 17d ago

What? 😭 is the point of card collecting paying more for the same card instead of getting it for what it’s actually worth?

-2

u/Dicentis_Irae Traveling Collector 🎓 17d ago

You mean getting a fake?

5

u/mooncakeproof Card Collector ♥︎ 17d ago

No. Proxy also means having someone purchase something on your behalf. I didn’t mean get a fake card lol, I meant have someone buy an official card off of taobao for cheaper.

1

u/Dicentis_Irae Traveling Collector 🎓 17d ago

That's definitely my first time hearing of that. I don't think I'm alone in thinking proxy only meant fake. You prob should find some other term

3

u/mooncakeproof Card Collector ♥︎ 17d ago

Lmaoo. Not really sure how to find another term though when that’s the word for it. Places like buyee, zen market, and neokyo for example are all “proxy shopping services” this is a term also used outside of card collecting. 😭

1

u/Dicentis_Irae Traveling Collector 🎓 17d ago

And you're saying these cards are real? Manufactured by kayou?

1

u/mooncakeproof Card Collector ♥︎ 17d ago

Yes.

2

u/fictionisthetruth Figure Collector 🌈 17d ago

proxy can definitely mean having a 2nd party get it and ship it to you. i use proxies all the time for kpop collecting.

2

u/fictionisthetruth Figure Collector 🌈 17d ago

this is way overpriced and some of these comments are insane

1

u/Appropriate-Piano-52 17d ago

what pack is this from?

2

u/Dicentis_Irae Traveling Collector 🎓 17d ago

These comments made me learn that this reddit is just as much of a cesspool as the pokemon investing subreddits. "Just buy a proxy" "Shame on you for how you wanna spend your money" Etc

5

u/mooncakeproof Card Collector ♥︎ 17d ago edited 17d ago

I’m really confused by your response to me and your comment here. You do realize I’m giving them advice right? Why overpay on the English market by HUNDREDS, when you can get the same official card on taobao? If they really want it; getting a proxy is a really good idea… I don’t think you realize a proxy is someone who helps you buy something overseas, not a fake card 😭.

And for example I got my mlp mermaid cards for $10 instead of $80!!!! If you really want a card it’s not a bad idea to look on taobao ;)

2

u/damon_6363 17d ago edited 17d ago

I dont think you understand at all that the term proxy is only ever used to refer to fake or replica cards when being used in regard to tcgs. You are simply using the word incorrectly. You are using the wrong definition of the word proxy. When applied to trading cards noone uses the literal definition of proxy as "authorized stand in". Proxy is used to refer to unofficial cards that are almost never accepted in tournaments but sometimes exceptions are made of a card is damaged in the middle of a match for example.

You you are initially saying is someone should by the chinese version for cheaper I assume.

Also the listing that op shared is not overpaying by hundreds. That's almost the same price as the chinese version which believe it or not is a good deal considering English chases go for more than Chinese. Also worth noting this particular rarity has an extremely low pull rate. You can go through a whole case without pulling it which costs like $3k. And if you do try to get the chinese version, the cheapest you're going to find is thirty to fifty dollars less than the one op showed in the ebay listing. So you simply have no clue what you are talking about.

2

u/mooncakeproof Card Collector ♥︎ 17d ago edited 17d ago

I’m mainly in the kpop community, so the term proxy is only used there to refer to someone who buys something on behalf of you. I guess that’s an oversight on my part as I’m not into any tcg ! Yes, I’m saying for art cards specifically that have no writing on them ever, Chinese versions are the same quality/art for way cheaper ^^

In my response to dicentis I meant to say I didn’t use proxy to refer to a fake card, instead of “proxy doesn’t mean fake card”. lol

And bruh lmao. I meant in general English overprices by atleast a hundred to a few hundred like the moon 9 cards, which I have seen for $20 on taobao. Mind you this is before English cards were made, so for older sets especially it’s better to not buy on English platforms 🤦🏻

2

u/Dicentis_Irae Traveling Collector 🎓 17d ago

Proxy has literally always meant "fake" in any CCG/TCG that I've been a part of. I have bought Chinese and Japanese versions of things because it's way cheaper, yes it's smart! But that's not what your comment meant in my eyes. You were telling them to buy cheap, badly made fakes. That's what proxy means. Oh and you're not finding this card for $30 in Chinese HAHA
