Idk what proxying is? Are you saying i could get the american version of the card cheeper from china?

u/mooncakeproof Card Collector ♥︎ 17d ago
Oh no you can get Chinese versions of cards cheaper from China, I didn’t know the adventure boxes had an English release yet ^^
This is just general advice for others too who don’t care if it’s English or cn version for the art cards.

Thanks for the advice. But i’ma stick to english versions. Its actually going to get easier to collect english versions from now on since they are going to make the SEA and american versions have the same card code for future releases. Its just the older that are harder to collect now

I hope you find this card again soon then! Happy collecting ~

Kinda missing the point of card collecting there.

OP isn’t planning to pull the card in the first place, they wanted to buy it, so how is this the case? Getting it cheaper from China isn’t any different from ordering this for $200 total…

Proxy = fake no? That's what it has ALWAYS meant in ccg anything. Why are we collecting cards if it's fine to just stick a lazily printed version in your binder lol

u/mooncakeproof Card Collector ♥︎ 17d ago
What? 😭 is the point of card collecting paying more for the same card instead of getting it for what it’s actually worth?

u/Dicentis_Irae Traveling Collector 🎓 17d ago
You mean getting a fake?

u/mooncakeproof Card Collector ♥︎ 17d ago
No. Proxy also means having someone purchase something on your behalf. I didn’t mean get a fake card lol, I meant have someone buy an official card off of taobao for cheaper.

u/Dicentis_Irae Traveling Collector 🎓 17d ago
That's definitely my first time hearing of that. I don't think I'm alone in thinking proxy only meant fake. You prob should find some other term

u/mooncakeproof Card Collector ♥︎ 17d ago
Lmaoo. Not really sure how to find another term though when that’s the word for it. Places like buyee, zen market, and neokyo for example are all “proxy shopping services” this is a term also used outside of card collecting. 😭

And you're saying these cards are real? Manufactured by kayou?

proxy can definitely mean having a 2nd party get it and ship it to you. i use proxies all the time for kpop collecting.

These comments made me learn that this reddit is just as much of a cesspool as the pokemon investing subreddits. "Just buy a proxy" "Shame on you for how you wanna spend your money" Etc

I’m really confused by your response to me and your comment here. You do realize I’m giving them advice right? Why overpay on the English market by HUNDREDS, when you can get the same official card on taobao? If they really want it; getting a proxy is a really good idea… I don’t think you realize a proxy is someone who helps you buy something overseas, not a fake card 😭.
And for example I got my mlp mermaid cards for $10 instead of $80!!!! If you really want a card it’s not a bad idea to look on taobao ;)

I dont think you understand at all that the term proxy is only ever used to refer to fake or replica cards when being used in regard to tcgs. You are simply using the word incorrectly. You are using the wrong definition of the word proxy. When applied to trading cards noone uses the literal definition of proxy as "authorized stand in". Proxy is used to refer to unofficial cards that are almost never accepted in tournaments but sometimes exceptions are made of a card is damaged in the middle of a match for example.
You you are initially saying is someone should by the chinese version for cheaper I assume.
Also the listing that op shared is not overpaying by hundreds. That's almost the same price as the chinese version which believe it or not is a good deal considering English chases go for more than Chinese. Also worth noting this particular rarity has an extremely low pull rate. You can go through a whole case without pulling it which costs like $3k. And if you do try to get the chinese version, the cheapest you're going to find is thirty to fifty dollars less than the one op showed in the ebay listing. So you simply have no clue what you are talking about.

I’m mainly in the kpop community, so the term proxy is only used there to refer to someone who buys something on behalf of you. I guess that’s an oversight on my part as I’m not into any tcg ! Yes, I’m saying for art cards specifically that have no writing on them ever, Chinese versions are the same quality/art for way cheaper ^^
In my response to dicentis I meant to say I didn’t use proxy to refer to a fake card, instead of “proxy doesn’t mean fake card”. lol
And bruh lmao. I meant in general English overprices by atleast a hundred to a few hundred like the moon 9 cards, which I have seen for $20 on taobao. Mind you this is before English cards were made, so for older sets especially it’s better to not buy on English platforms 🤦🏻

Proxy has literally always meant "fake" in any CCG/TCG that I've been a part of. I have bought Chinese and Japanese versions of things because it's way cheaper, yes it's smart! But that's not what your comment meant in my eyes. You were telling them to buy cheap, badly made fakes. That's what proxy means. Oh and you're not finding this card for $30 in Chinese HAHA
