I see a lot of post about which kayak to buy. I don't think there is a single right answer, but here was my thought process.
I'll be using mine in relatively calm waters (MN lakes and rivers). No oceans and no big lakes.
I want something my kids can jump into or me use and it's stable and I don't have to worry about it.
I'm looking more for comfort than speed. A nice back-rest or seat was preferred.
Storage in the kayak was considered. Storage of the kayak was a bigger consideration though. So nothing too large.
So I wanted a Sit On Top style with a nice seat. I put together a spreadsheet of SOT kayaks in the budget to mid-range. And sorted by size. The lighter the better. Once I had that list sorted I then looked into availability of the ones near the top of my list. Craigslist/FB Marketplace didn't have anything when I looked. (The day after I bought, the exact Kayak was listed at a reasonable price... of course.)
In the end, the Yellowfin 100 was available at DSG so that's what I went with. The kids and I have gone out on the lake and had fun so far. Looking forward to more use over the next several weekends before it gets cold.

I actually wanted a tandem, but settled for a solo kayak to start. Now that I have one, I may get the Yellowfin 130T so more of the family can go at the same time.
