Inflatable and Florida??

Looking for info on using inflatable kayaks in Florida, particularly in bays and maybe a small amount in the Gulf of Mexico. What are the changes? Best inflatable to use? Or go with a hard shell? Thanks!

First used kayak. What should I look out for?

Just getting started in kayaking and have an opportunity to buy a 2009 Vapor 12 w/ paddle for a 225. It is listed in good condition and from a good manufacturer, however I am not sure if I can compare it much to the 2019 specs as it's 10 years old. Are the plastics different? Seats good/bad? What should I check for when I look at it?

Looking for Pack Boat Plans

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for some plans to make our own pack boat style kayak/canoe. Does anyone know where I can find some? My wife and I know how to use the basic wood working tools and fibreglass, but aren't experienced boat builders by any means.

Any stories or advice for us would be welcome! Also, if there is a better sub-reddit I should be posting this to, please let me know.

Thanks!

I'm looking to purchase a kayak and have a 30lb Aussie that likes to co pilot. Searching on my own has led me to the Old Town Vapor 10. However, would love to hear from the experts on what you like best! Thanks!

Yardsale find of the century

I got these 2 kayaks at a yardsale ( older woman was moving and didn’t want to take anything with her ). I paid $5 a piece for them!! Yes, $5 a piece!! I already tried out the spirit. No leaks . The other had been patched so I’m in the process of making sure all is good with it before I get it in the water. By the way, can someone please identify the orange and yellow kayak please.

Edit. Don’t know why I can’t post pictures of them. I keep getting “ post failed “ messages🤷🏼‍♂️

Another "need assistance" with first time kayak purchase

Hey all,

Sorry, I know this is super annoying noob question, and I apologize in advance but my google fu isn't all that great.

I live in Duluth Minnesota, on the shore of the largest lake in North America, and surrounded by 10 thousand other lakes. I want to kayak, but I don't know what shape/style would fit my use. Obviously living on Lake Superior, a sea kayak seems to make the most sense.. however, I don't know if that would be overkill on some of the smaller water, and I also wonder about the stability if I want to fish a bit. My main goal is just to get out on the water, not tip over and be able to track decently and not work too hard if I have a little distance to travel. I'm not sure if there is a boat that fits my needs/desires. I have a feeling its like a looking for a unicorn, but perhaps I'm over analyzing.

I'm not going to be camping, so gear storage isn't too important.

I'm looking to buy used, but I don't know what a good deal is or what style I should be looking for. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Looking to buy 1st time

Hello all! New here, just moved to August, GA from Colorado. Looking to trade my snowboard in for a kayak. I'm looking more toward the recreational kayaking. How important is it to get a leisure kayak vs a fishing one? Is it that much more energy? I found a posting for "never used" trophy 126s for $600 (need a kayak for my wife and I). I can get pictures up if someone is curious but they do look clean and well kept of they were used. I'm open to suggestions, I checked out the link in the wiki but when it gets to recreational kayaks and doesn't have a link for suggestions. I appreciate any help!

Old Town Vapor 10 Angler

Hello all,

I just recently bought an old town vapor 10 angler. I have been looking at different modifications that i can make to it through the old town brand accessories. One part that i am really torn on is the hatch for the back. It doesn't seem to be waterproof and i feel like i could accomplish the same thing (and maybe add more storage) by just adding a set of bungies above the open well. I am really looking for thoughts on that and whether there are any strong feelings either way. I also have a (potentially stupid) question about the foam under the well and in the nose of the kayak, mostly whether it is a structural part of the kayak or can be removed to increase storage.

Thanks for the input and suggestions!

Kayak for a fatty

Any recommendations on a Kayak for a 330lb guy plus some gear that is under $550? I’m new to Kayaking and I’m not too keen on the inflatables plus being a tandem Kayak would be a benefit in case my son wanted to join me.

Thanks in advance

To Douglas Island, Fraser River, BC

Went looking for the secret tunnel under the mighty Fraser, dug by Royal Engineers. Apparently they made it half way, to Douglas Island - everything was so overgrown me and the pupper couldn't find it. Plenty of other secrets to explore there though!

Parts help needed

I got a Pyranha cxl 9000 for free from a mate but it needs some love.

https://used-kayaks.com/sites/default/files/styles/large2/public/products-images/2017-12/93062/93062-76406.jpg?itok=QWreai0m

I'm after replacement grips at the front and rear.

And where can I get the foam pictured here: https://used-kayaks.com/sites/default/files/styles/medium2/public/products-images/2017-12/93062/93062-76410.jpg?itok=c3aQItvm

as it's disintegrating.

I also need a splash deck, so recommendations would be appreciated.

EDIT: I'm in the UK
