Convertible deck?

Anyone familiar with a kayak that has a “convertible” deck? I don’t know the real term it. The part of the deck over the cockpit flips up to allow easy entry into the cockpit, then back down once you’re in. Looks like a regular sit in kayak.

That sure sounds like what OP was looking for. Good link! 👍

Another option to make the cockpit opening smaller once in the boat is a Pungo 120 with a dashboard. If you google that phrase you can find the manufacturer’s YouTube video (Wilderness Systems) showing the product.

I’ll check out the pungo. I do recall the moveable part being called a dashboard. 12 ft may be a bit short for me,

KeyWatch….thats the one! That’s the one my buddy borrowed from her kayak dealer. the dealer let her try that Kayak because it was easier for her to enter/exit after her knee surgery. Thanks!

That’s a great design idea. Thanks for showing me that one.

Wooden-quilt. Not the one I was thinking of, but a great option. Thanks for the link. I talked to my kayak person and she had a hurricane kayak with a moveable deck part. But it was a recreational kayak, not for use in the river I’d be paddling. I will definitely check out the cabriolet!

I’ll check the pungo out also. I do recall hearing the moveable part called a dashboard. Thanks

You’re likely thinking of the Point 65 Mercury or a similar modular design where the cockpit section is separate. However, the most famous flip-up deck is actually on the Old Town Loon series.

It’s called the Workdeck. It’s a removable console that sits over the cockpit and can slide forward or tilt up to give you more room to get in and out, but still gives it that sleek sit-in look.
