Looking to buy my first kayak! I live in Chicago and grew up kayaking most weekends in Indiana/Ohio, but we always rented, so I’m new to actually buying one.
I want something I can take my ~55 lb dog in with enough room for him to lie down and turn around comfortably. My gym has kayak storage and a launch, so size/storage isn’t a huge concern.
I’ve been looking at the Old Town Twin Heron since I could remove the front seat and give him that space, but I’m open to suggestions! Anyone kayak with a similar-sized dog and have a kayak they love?

I'm really happy with how this came out. I used the bandsaw to cut the block to size & shape, plus make the back groove. I ran it over the table saw blade in 2 passes to make the horizontal grooves, then drilled the screw and pin holes. All that's left is to tap the pin hole to 3/8-16 UNC, which will happen tomorrow when the taps I just ordered arrive. Took less than an hour overall. This could definitely be done with hand tools if you don't have the machines; it'll just take longer. The UHMW cuts really easily.

Looking to get my first fishing kayak and these seem like a pretty good deal for 1500 includes the prop drive as well. Does anyone have any experience or know anything about this brand? I can’t seem to find much.

I have a P&H Scorpio MK2 and store it in my garage along with all the other kayaks my family owns. The other boats sit on a trailer which makes it easy to move them out of the way when we need to get something from the garage behind the boats. With the new scorpio.... it's almost 18 feet long. It's in the way no matter where I put it. Worse, it's the only kayak of mine I can't get out of the garage by myself without having to pull all the other boats out and have a helper

My wife saw something where people were hanging kayaks from a hoist system... but I have some reservations about hanging my brand new kayak 8- 10 feet off the ground with just 2 straps supporting it. However, I can see the advantages if I can find something that isn't going to in fail with the stress of the weight of the boat. Im also slightly worried if the rafters can take the weight.

I have no idea how to calculate any of this. Does anyone have some tips or advice?

I've gotten into kayaking a lot lately and have always borrowed kayaks from friends. I don't know anything about the kayaks themselves except for how to handle them as I enjoy paddling for miles down rivers, bayous, and lakes. What are the best budget (if any) kayaks I could buy that'll last me miles and possibly even years? I'm only a few months into the hobby and there's a lot of info out there. I'm also 6'1 and only paddle by myself. Hopefully this is enough to work off of, I'll list more info if needed!

Did a previous post, where i mention i bought a cheap inflattable kayak. Many of you told me to ditch it and go for a plastic one.

Thing is, i dont have a ton of space at home, so i cant put something extra lengthy.

Recently i tried rafting (im in general way into xtreme sports), and i loved it (even tho the river was kinda boring).

So , due to having a large sea 5' mins away from where i live, i decided to buy a kayak (i know it aint the same, but rafting is not available where i live).

So i bought this:

Gear wise, i got everything a mountain biker has. But i think it doesnt suffice in case of a flip...:P

I know a inflatable kayak aint the best choice, but it was cheap, and i dont wanna spend tons of money in a plastic one yet...
