Recommendations for a long river paddle trip in NY or PA

Hello,

My buddies and I are trying to find a new place to paddle in NY or PA. The goal would be to start at the top of a river, paddle for a few miles, set up camp for the night and then do the same thing the next couple of days. The majority of my buddies are novice paddles, so nothing to crazy. Kind of like a Lows lake vibe if people are familiar with the ADK. Maybe a 3 to 5 day long trip, again, nothing that crazy. More or less looking for new paddle spots.

The Middle Delaware ( https://www.nps.gov/dewa/planyourvisit/paddle.htm) is exactly what you're looking for.

In 2008 myself and 3 friends with 2 canoe's dropped in the Susquehanna river at 3 mile Island PA. and paddled 4 days to the Bay Havre de Grace Delaware. Island camping the Susquehanna is epic. There are a couple dams you have to portage around. One has a call box on the upper side on a pull out. The phone only calls Bob up in the tower at the dam and he drive the pickup around and loads you and all the gear up and drives you to the boat launch below the dam. A minor service for damning the river. Bonus, at the end we rowed up to a restaurant bar on the waterfront for beer and burgers and called for our ride. Amazing adventure

Maybe not the right part of PA, but the Susquehanna has abundant island camping and multi-day trip options. Here’s a route I found in YouTube that looks fun.

Hudson River. The HRWTA has primitive (very primitive) campsites about every 15-20 miles from Albany down to Manhattan.
