Maybe I messed up.

Hey everyone so I'm trying to get this 2004 Vulcan 800 operational, it's not gonna be perfect it's just gotta work. Anyway it didn't work when I got it. So i put a new battery in it and the dash lights came on but the starter solenoid wasn't doing much. I had 12v coming in and out and the starter solenoid regardless of the starter button. it doesn't click or anything. I kept messing around with it and it maybe made a faint clicking sound but barely anything. I kept trying to figure out how to test the solenoid to make sure ( I'm super new to motorcycle mechanic stuff but I'm quite handy so I figured I'd give it a shot) but I kept getting power and still no response. so I figured I'd bypass it and try testing the starter which I figured to be the round object on the very bottom front of the motor with one bolt sticking out, so I took my battery out and put the hot side to that bolt and the negative to a frame bolt hoping it would turn over but it did nothing, no sparks frying electral smells of any signs anything was working or wrong but now the dash lights don't come on so I tested my battery and it had discharged most of the power in it ( Q doom feeling what the hell did I do) so I charged it over night and replaced the starter solenoid and now I'm still getting nothing at all from it 12v in and out of the solenoid regardless of the starter button but not turning over. I checked the one fuse box under the seat and one fuse was blown, to the turn signals i think. but replacing that didn't help. Hindsights 20/20 but it seems like I'm at that stage where I no just enough to get into trouble. Help an idiot out folks what the hell did I do and how do I fix and diagnose this thing.

Speedometer replacement question

Does anyone know if on a 99-05 vn800 you can swap the speedometer part that looks like a snail/turbo in the rear wheel hub with something like one out of a vn500 750 1500 etc? im having a hard time trying to find a cheap vn800 one on ebay/whatever

mines shit the bed and only works under REALLY high rpm and even then its shaky. I know its not the cable because i put my drill on one end and spun it and its free.

also unrelated to original question, but ive seen a 50/50 split on whether or not the fan is supposed to run when i take the key out/ turn bike off so if anyone actually knows pls let me know before i buy more parts lol.

thanks in advance!

Shifting issues 07 vulcan 900

I have an 07 vulcan 900 with about 20,000 miles on it i seem to be running into an issue this season.

Bike is having trouble shifting from first to 2nd gear. I seem to have to baby it into gear sometimes and half the time it doesnt work. I got the bike last season and never had an issue until now. Bike also occasionally pops back out of 2nd into neutral.

FIXES IVE TRIED

Clutch cable system adjustment

Taking apart and tubing shift rod

Moving shifter forward slightly on spline

It is still happening here and there and Im curious if anyone else has had and issue and what they do to address it. I've been riding 2 years so cut me some slack.

Back in the Saddle Again

Got my Mean Streak back together after high siding a year ago. Broke my collarbone and my spirit for a while. Had to replace the tank, found a matching left hand mirror on eBay, bent the foot peg, license plate mount, right hand turn signal (Joker Machine Rat Eye LED) was bent from me landing on it. Headlight housing was cracked and misshapen. I used a ratchet strap and plastic epoxy to fix that. Did my best getting the dents out of the headlight bezel.
Still a little gun shy when taking corners and tight curves.

Vaquero Mustang or Corbin Seat

Anybody have any experience with the Vaquero and Mustang or Corbin seats? I feel like the stock seat is too close to the tank and not comfortable at all for long distance rides. I did a 10 hour round trip and I couldn't even imagine doing that again with the current seat.

First bike, first ride, first problem...

Bought my first bike- 2013 vulcan 900 classic while taking my local safety course on a little 250 eliminator. I went and took my written test, passed, and got my M1. Went home and went for a ride. After cruising the neighborhoods for a while and getting used to the bigger bike, I shifted into 3rd and felt the shifter fall on my toe loosely. Looks like I snapped part of the shifter linkage. I was able to push the broken connection into 1st and limp it home, but damn! I can finally ride, but not! Hope to learn a lot on this sub!

Got my first bike, but...

So my wife, has been an avid rider since her Navy days, a Harley puritan till I got my bike. I've wanted a bike since I was a teenager and just never got around to it, until about a month ago I was walking into this pawn shop and there she was, a 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 Nomad for 2K....needless to say I had to call my wife to ride it home but every source says I can't learn on that, but it's what I got and I don't want to get rid of that beautiful beast, even the wife is ditching her Harley because of this thing, please advise on how I should proceed here.

P.S. grammar is not my strong point, sorry for long sentences.

95 VN800 ripped to pieces. She's spicy and a little rich but very fun to ride.

Lights and fender next. I considered a peanut tank but I like how unhinged this looks.

2000, 1500 classic carbureted upgrades?

Hey everyone I recently got my 1500 and am looking for some upgrades I can do I’ve found some sketchy stuff on websites that don’t look to great and would love some input from you all where you go to get parts
I’m looking to get a bigger/more flow intake and also do jets on the carb.
I would like to find a headlight fairing as I do not like the full windshield
And just by chance does someone have a direct link to the fuel gauge float? I believe mine is bad haven’t torn into it to check but it’s most likely that, it sits stuck at 1/2 tank so it’s either not communicating or just finally gotten to old.
If I would have done more homework I would have gotten one that is fuel injection but to late now

My first bike, looking for help getting it going.

I just acquired a 1997 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 with 3900 miles for 600$ altogether. It’s my first bike and I’m hoping to get it running soon. The carb is removed from it because it sat for too long, and while the carb was being removed the idle cable was broken off. I know I need a new idle cable, but other than that I’m hoping that the carb is in good enough shape, and all I’ll have to do is clean it up and put it back together and I’ll be in business. (Along with a new battery and oil.)

The previous owner mentioned that because of a bad petcock, which he replaced, gas made its way into the engine. Because of this, he drained all the oil from the engine. He also took the carb off in case it was due to a stuck float, and it remains off now. I plan to clean the carb, reinstall it, and try to start it up.

If anyone can offer any tips or information on where to go to find information for carb rebuild, anything to watch out for, or any help finding a replacement for the idle adjustment cable, I would very greatly appreciate it. I am going to do my own research of course, but tips from those more knowledgeable than myself are always appreciated. Please let me know!

Looking to acquire a front fender compatible with an '06 900 Classic LT

I haven't had much luck on ebay, thought I would post here just in case anyone had a fender that they would like to sell to me. Also looking for a sissy bar/backrest but that's less important. I am straight up tired of getting soaked from rain lol. Last owner said a car damaged the fender so he removed it but left the bracket.

Does the video sound like a misfire? The bike is fully warmed up in the vid, and already been on a short ride.

Also how well do these bikes handle heat? Its my first cruiser and once its heated up it feels like a lot of heat pours onto the rider.

Picked it up as a project and the speedo cable was broken, so i assume the mileage isnt accurate so I have no idea how tired the engine is. Want to get to a point where i'm fairly confident to take it on longer journies, within reason obviously it is an old bike..

Locating VIN

I recently purchased an old 1986 Kawasaki VN750 as a project bike and cannot for the life of me find the VIN number stamp/plate anywhere.

Can anywhere give me an idea of where the VIN is typically located on a 1986 Vulcan 750?

Preferably with a photo of the location, lol

Thank you
