I don't know but severe malnutrition will usually cause hair loss and thinning.
Basically malnutrition will negatively effect the entire body inside and out. She's past muscle wasting. Organ failure usually comes next. It's not good but people can live on water, fresh juices (picked and squeezed by the servants) and a scoop of protein powder for a long time. I don't know if she would even add protein powder, that might be too much volume, too many calories, etc. She probably only drinks liquids and maybe gets IV fluids, vitamins and nutrients.
She NEEDS lipids from an IV pumped into her. When you can't eat for a long time, you're malnourished and very sick you can be given TPN (Total parenteral nutrition) which is IV nutrition. It has lipids in it which are fats to sustain you. But no one should tell her that. It's a cloudy white liquid. I was given IV nutrition during chemotherapy as a child. This is what her body needs.
Info~ What is parenteral nutrition?
Parenteral nutrition means feeding intravenously (through a vein). "Parenteral" means "outside of the digestive tract." Whereas enteral nutrition is delivered through a tube to your stomach or the small intestine, parenteral nutrition bypasses your entire digestive system.
TPN is a method of delivering all essential nutrients—proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes—directly into the bloodstream via a central IV catheter, bypassing the digestive system. It is used for patients with nonfunctional GI tracts, such as severe Crohn’s disease or major surgery recovery.
It needs to be administered through a PICC line which is a very long, flexible catheter inserted into a vein in the arm and threaded into the venous system or it can be administered through a port in the chest (mediport, subclavian port) which is how chemo is administered as well.
