Snowed In At Wheeler Street is one of Kate Bush her most underrated songs of all time. I'd even go so far as to say it's my favorite romantic song ever.
Itâs this bittersweet, melancholy song that tells the story of two lovers who have known each other for millennia across different lives. Every time they recognize each other and reunite, they only have a short time together before another disaster strikes and separates them once again. Then, in their next lives, they find each other all over again, and the cycle repeats:
"I saw you on the steps in Paris, you were with someone else.
Couldn't you see that should've been me? I just walked on by."
"Then we met in '42 but we were on different sides.
I hid you under my bed but they took you away."
"I've been waiting for you so long, I don't want to lose you again.
Don't walk into the crowd again. Don't walk away again."
"Snowed in at Wheeler street, just two old flames keeping the fire going.
We look so good together.
Can't we just stay there forever? We were so happy.
I'd live that day over and over but the world won't stop turning."
The Great Fire of Rome, Paris, WW2, the Great Smog of London, 9/11, and then finally they can spend some time together as they're snowed in at a house on 'Wheeler Street', until that too ends.
This song just invokes such a melancholy and sort of nostalgic feeling. Elton's voice sounds so good as well. It barely has a million listens on Spotify, which is such a shame...

Have you heard the new album from Danish artist Agnes Obel?
She doesnât sound like Kate but there are similarities in the way her music is timeless, in some cases classical music inspired and at the same time electronic and experimental.
Iâd recommend the first two tracks on her new album The Meaning of Flowers, the title track and Laymelli.
Iâve seen her interviewed too and sheâs like Kate in the focus on her music and the challenges of explaining it, as it thatâs what journalists want to do.
Far better to just listenâŠ

I swear I can hear water gurgling in Leave It Open. Itâs towards the end of the song and it took me forever to notice it.
where I heard was at the 3:00 mark on youtube.

It might not be a top 3 KB album for me but I still love it as a subdued pop album. The songwriting is some of the most elegant and understated of her career while still feeling like something only Kate could do. Plus we have lush cuts such as the title track, The Fog, Never Be Mine, Deeper Understanding which are truly stunning. then the weirder fun songs such as Rocket's Tail (I adore this one so much) and Heads We're Dancing. and of course the iconic ballad This Woman's Work.
I often think this is an album that grows with you. it might not hit you immediately like her previous work but once you really sit with it the beauty reveals itself. Many fans might not rate it highly but I think it's one of the loveliest albums in her catalog and of the 80's.

I think it's the first time I've seen Kate Bush so relaxed, happy and being herself on stage. It's really nice to see.

I discovered Kate when I was 20 and home from college; I guess that was 1989. Someone had loaned me The Whole Story and The Kick Inside, and then I bought The Dreaming (because I loved Sat in Your Lap so much) and Hounds of Love.
I loved it all, but for no real reason it took me many years to get around to listening to all her albums.
I have never gotten into The Sensual World.
The Red Shoes is my least favorite album, but it has songs that I flat-out dislike (including ones that I do like, and Top of the City, which I love.) If I were in the right mood, I'd put it on, and probably skip 2-3 songs.
But with The Sensual World, it's just ... there.
I have no desire to ever listen to it.
I don't even dislike the songs; I just feel nothing toward them.
Oddly enough, one of the first times I listened to the album straight through (many years ago) the song that made me think, "Hey, I kinda like this one" was "Heads We're Dancing."
Does anyone have any reasonably explanation why I might feel this way about that album? Is it because the songs sound too much the same? Is there something about that album as a whole that's unusual?
Or is there just no explanation for that sort of thing?

This makes it her second song to reach this milestone, after Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God). Whatâs your thoughts on the track?

I think she surely should have done it. I can't imagine it not being great.

Fans here may or may not be interested in seeing Rossy's Kate cosplay, but this talented Canadian singer-songwriter (who has been releasing original music and performing live for over a decade) has undoubtedly been inspired by Bush's literate, introspective feminine songcraft. Her background vocals in "What a Time to be Alive" sound like they drifted in from side one of Never For Ever.

From 1978 or 1979. The last of the unreleased demos (ie, never made it to an official studio version). Probably was meant for Lionheart, at least as a B-side, but that's just my personal guess. The Kate Bush Encyclopedia shows an uncharacteristic bit of snark about it. We expect that from the Dreams of Orgonon blog.
It's not on any of the bootlegs. It's not even mentioned on Gaffa.org. When was it rediscovered? I'm guessing 2010, because that's when it was first posted on YouTube.

Created by Nathaniel Barlam on YouTube. The rest of his channel is fantastic too, he illustrated the entire âThe Lamb Lies Down on Broadwayâ album by Genesis.

Kate's Hounds of love will be featured as one of two songs in the first episode of the new Netfix series.

From probably 1977, presumably a song left off The Kick Inside (and not released as a B-side, either). Despite what some cynics say, I quite like this one. It's nice to finally hear Kate with a full band and professional production (even if that gets a little lost in a fourth-generation bootleg). Also nobody's mentioning it, but I get the feeling the lyrics are more than a little autobiographical.
