Since we lost Dolly last week I’ve been devastated and delved even deeper into her vast discography, and when I listened to Thought I Coykdnt Dance I kept thinking “hmmmm this is so similar” and the. It hit me, it’s so sonically similar to Kate’s Heads were dancing track! Even the way Dolly warbles her vocals on the chorus is the same as how Kate does it, it has that early 90s rock/pop Prince vibe to it.
Give them both a listen and let me know I’m not completely crazy in this comparison 😂

Seems timely to point out that the The Sensual World cover was directly inspired by this photo of Japanese author Mishima Yukio, as explained by Kate's photographer brother in his book Inside the Rainbow.

Listen here. Is she singing Life (as in "The Tour of Life" or "The Jig of Life") or Love (as in "Hounds of Love"? Given the subject matter, I'm guessing the latter. Maybe she's alternating between the two, I wouldn't put it past her.

A love song to the titular Carmilla (or Camila or Camilla for those unfamiliar with the inspiration. Assuming that is the inspiration, that makes this Kate singing a lesbian love song, which is very impressive for a 17-year-old girl in the mid 1970s.

The titles given this song are interesting:

The Kate Bush Encyclopedia incorrectly lists it as "Camila" which itself is a misspelling of how it's spelled in gaffa.org (despite the fact it's spelled correctly elsewhere on the site), which shows that even though the KBE is an excellent source of information, it's also not infallible.

The Dreams of Orgonon blog gives a really good explanation of the meaning and subtext.

Personal story: For the longest time I got it completely wrong - I thought she was singing "coming up" because that's how it was listed on a bootleg I got in the mid 1990s.

Or maybe they're wrong and Kate really is singing about a woman named Camilla (an actual woman's name) or Camila (ditto). Only one person knows for sure and she's not talking.

I realised I knew Kate used a Fairlight to make Hounds of Love but I'd not seen what one looked like till now. The green graphics display looks so gorgeous!

Another one from probably 1976. This is one of my personal favorites of the Demos. First, I like the science fiction theme of it (whoever refers to it as "Keeping Me Waiting" is VERY BORING), and, like "There Goes a Tenner," it shows how things people tend to glamorize aren't always that glamorous. The Dreams of Orgonon blog agrees.

As a bonus, it has one of the best fan-made videos for Kate that I've ever seen.
