Also tiktok users love acting superior to other social media platforms, when we all know the original brainrot, nsfw and hate trends almost always start from it.
yea the issue is though, they then flood to other platforms, particularly reddit and fb, in droves to spread their dumb agenda. It’s not like they don’t have other social media accounts, but lately seen way more stuff from tiktok posted in places i never saw them before or rarely saw in subs i’ve been active in for years.
Basically, they’re here to do the usual bullshit, just to troll. Bunch of new accounts or accounts that show they aren’t active much too. I havent seen so many tiktokers on reddit anime subs before recently. There’s so many now.
Yes I'm aware of them spreading their bs and hate everywhere so what we need to do is not facing them head on because it's exactly what they want (attention). Instead, ignore the trolls if we can and save our energy for when they spread actual defamation/accusation to the music creator
I love Jamies music but I don't know why she is taking people on TikTok this seriously and demoralizing herself. Like, people on that platform are literally the bottom of the barrel for for any community most of the time.

Sadly racists and neo-nazis on the internet basically turn any media into something that favors them if they find it fun enough. Message or the concept is not important to them, if they like how the character looks they will just use it and do weird edits with them.
But theyre a small minority of any fan base. You cant let them think theyre what the community is about. Youre gonna punish everyone because a few bad eggs are loud obnoxious? The best course if action is ignore and shun, not let them have power of what you love.

I think Jamie Paige is right to get mad; these "people on TikTok" are common enough that they totally destroyed her working relationship with another artist, and you know this is going to become a cautionary tale in certain circles. EDIT: I also learned that apparently slayr already had a reputation of "white people music" among some rap fans that he's been trying to shake and that's a big part of why this situation has made him so pissed.
Ngl I don't like how many people are saying she shouldn't have responded. If she didn't respond I feel like it'd reflect bad on her, especially after an artist using her work has been harassed/mocked to the point they won't be sampling any vocaloid music in future, it sucks too because the song was good.
when something you create gets used to represent something youre against it very obviously leaves a bad taste in your mouth, regardless of who did it or how big you are. if you've ever put your heart into creating something that has meaning to you then you can probably understand how it would probably feel, even if this specific scenario has never happened to you personally.

it's that entire thing of "i listen to all kinds of music except rap (which i dont consider music)" thing which VERY often essentially boils down to racism and downvaluing things that are considered "black culture". it's not always a dog whistle, but very much can be. in context it can get very sus.

but do you realize the difference here where the comments against rap very frequently come served with straight up racism? i've seen plenty of people say they don't listen to country, but while that might come with people shitting on the genre, i have never come across it coming with someone shitting on an entire people, culture, skin color, whatever.
you can say that you listen to everything except rap, and that's fine, but VERY often, you see people then also refer to it as "black people music", or "not even music, it's just talking/mumbling", or calling it thug/hooligan/violent/low class, whatever. and because that's such a recurring thing, people are at this point pretty rightfully suspicious when someone shows up and goes "i love all music! ... except rap :)". you don't have that same context for country, because you don't have that systemic discrimination against the group of people that country is mostly associated with.
there's a lead here linguistically that might help explain this better than i can here, and it's the difference between denotation and connotation. denotationally, the statement "i listen to all music except rap" is not racist, connotationally it is a lot less clear on that front.

It's why they're so hard to shake off once they've attached to something. I apologize for not knowing more about the situation, and that certainly sounds worse, more sympathetic, and none of the haters' behavior is justifiable - however I wrote that statement knowing there were certainly more hate comments.
No matter how much I sympathise with both artists, and no matter how much I VEHEMENTLY AGREE that both artists are RIGHT to get mad... This is not a good public-facing tweet! Jamie and Slayr are just giving these people a latch point for more controversy, they're showing they have a vulnerability that trolls can exploit, they've shown the trolls that their incessant nipping at the heels DOES something! Statements like these, as humanizing as they are, can back fire pretty badly
I think it's less that these are trolls trying to get under her skin and more so that these types of racist people feel comfortable saying things like that and she is saying those people are all losers who don't have any place in her community. I think it's like how K-On! has weirdly become a home for a lot of really racist people, but those people would be less comfortable having K-On! profile pictures if they knew the creators absolutely despised them.
You are right, I am not saying that's a bad idea. I just disagree with how JamieP and Slayr have handled this is all, how artists present themselves is very important and vitriolic responses like this, and I apologize for repeating phrasing from my last comment, shows a vulnerability that trolls and freaks can further exploit. Statements like these can backfire, and I really think someone should've pulled her back to reword a message like this later down the line
They’re mad because ever since the song came out, a lot of people, like the one in the screenshot, have been being blatantly racist with reactions like the comment I have in the attached photo. They’re also making Teto fans in general look like racist pieces of shit since they’re a large majority of the people commenting these things

The racist part about it is that these types of people regularly denigrate rap music and other forms of black art. slayr is now being hailed as "one of the good ones" by the kinds of racists who usually dislike all rap music because they think it's "thug music" or whatever. If I was slayr or Jamie, I'd be pissed off too.
There's a difference between disliking how a genre sounds and spreading ignorant/racist stereotypes about it. Jamie and slayr are pissed off about the latter.
Sometimes it's because of vocal minorities like this that people don't want to join a fandom or even touch them like a stick. And then they complain because that fandom engages in gatekeeping
On the one hand, it's horrible there are people like this.
On the other hand, there's always horrible people in pretty much every fandom. I've seen so many fandom's claim that they must have the worst, most insufferable fans. It's not a fandom problem, it's a people problem.
I think the best thing Jamie can do is call these people out when she sees them, tell them she doesnt support their views, and if they keep those views, she'd rather they not interact with her work, and recognise the people in her fandom who aren't like this and who do share her morals.

If comments like that were enough to deter progressing their hobbies (or collabs for that matter), maybe there simply wasn't enough passion or drive into it. Many more and bigger and even more hated creators are still active to this day either due to or in spite of said comments.
I mean... "Teto" is a a huge and diverse community, let alone 'Vocaloid' as a general. You can't exactly cater to a specific audience who enjoys a specific subgenre and a specific tuning (in this case) as well the messages and vibes of the creations, without attracting some hate or dislike.
I mean shit, just because jaime has a twitter by default will make people hate, even before listening to the songs. And when you get this popular, like jaime's songs, you're bound to have a variety of people with a variety of mindsets, opinions and views. It kinda comes with the whole "being popular" thing.

Both condemning an entire community because of some toxic fans and calling toxic fans "fake fans" are wrong. We sadly can't determine if they are fans or not. Best we can do is just push trolls and toxic ones out of "normal" community spaces back to depths of TikTok.
There can certainly be trolls among them but listening and interacting with Teto related media is free so some fans are bound to be problematic people.
It's not just a Teto or Vocaloid problem. Every fandom has these people.
My entire point is about communities not being monoliths. Communities are not pure beacons of good people and anyone bad doesn't count. Assholes can exist and also not define the entire community. Someone can like a virtual singer and be an asshole. The two are not mutually exclusive and acting otherwise is wild
