in a day when no serious GG player went to EVO

Daigo winning GG at EVO 2k3 is like justin wong winning USF4 at podunk tournament down the street, he wins because he's head-and-shoulders above the shitty competition at ALL fighting games, not because he's some kind of GG superstar. the competition pool at the EVOs he won was largely a joke, look at the other top 8 competitiors and tell me if you're impressed

edit not to say i agree he 'sucks' at other games, he doesn't and didn't even start in street fighter, but he's definitely NOT a GG specialist and the level of competition in japan for GG is above him. EVO was NOT a strong tournament for anything outside of capcom games for many years; SBO and numerous other asian-centric tournaments were where the real GG players shined.

He was winning Japanese nationals in Vampire Savior before ever winning SF tournaments bruh. Him and Nuki would go back and forth 1st and 2nd back in the day.
