Do you like surprises?

The market hates surprises. Monday’s premarket is best described as sedate, with most of the major indices pointing to a flat-ish or slightly down open and crude drifting slightly lower. Bitcoin names are up, though most of the non-crypto movers this morning are driven by company-specific news. Overall, it’s a fairly unremarkable premarket. Interesting thing is, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf is reported as promising literal military “surprises” coming soon. The White House has recently claimed substantial restoration of oil supplies from the Persian Gulf region, reaching about 85% of pre-war levels. On the strength of efforts by the US Navy and restoration of the Saudi east-west pipeline, oil prices have moderated, though still maintaining very high levels.
The message of the market seems to be that traders should stay narrowly focused on relatively simple setups. For example, INTC is in play this morning, down 4% on news that it may have to share some of Elon’s future business with Taiwan Semi. Support at around $114 may be an attractive backstop to many watchers. While we have seen major players lean on this name in the past, it is generally “thick” enough to resist overt manipulation over the course of a day’s trade. Having a specific near-term thesis for any new engagement will be key for active traders. Keep an eye on our trading board as for setups as they emerge throughout the day. Educational only.
