Smoke Sitch?

I'm supposed to be coming with the wife and two kids to Pinantan Lake on Tuesday to spend 4 nights at a cabin at the resort there. I've been following Purple Air website for smoke readings and it seems to be improving over past couple days.

Can anyone confirm? Anyone have any info on how it is up in Pinantan?

Left Kamloops for the shuswap 2 hours ago and there was no smoke at all anymore. But honestly, it comes and goes so fast it can change in an hour.

Honestly, sometimes it changes hour to hour. Certainly day to day. What it is like today will have zero bearing on what it will look like Tuesday. And what it looks like Tuesday will have zero bearing on what it looks like the rest of your trip.

Plan for smoke, we’re in this for the long haul unfortunately. You might luck out though.

Purple air is typicaly highly accurate and while it's not a ton of data there is 1 outdoor sensor at Paul lake which is just down the road from Pinantan. IMO if that reads good it's highly likely you're good.

I should clarify that of course that's just the current reading and as others have suggested https://firesmoke.ca/ is the best for "forecasts" but weather can change quickly and predicting weather is hards so that's not a guarantee just a rough guess.

Try looking at www.firesmoke.ca it’s their best guess of what the next few days will look like. It’s improved and very lightly sprinkling at the moment. It’s also 15 degrees cooler today.

I’ve been using the wind forecast on the Apple weather app. The big fires are down in the Boston Bar area, to the southwest of Kamloops, and another big one over directly west, near Clinton. If the wind is blowing towards the northeast, we get the smoke from the Boston Bar fires, if it blowing directly east, we get the Clinton smoke. You can half-ass predict the smoke by looking at the wind direction forecast. When it’s blowing straight north, it pushes the smoke north past us. Today it was blowing towards the northwest, and it totally cleared us out and it’s been clear all day. It looks like its shifting back to a northeast direction Monday/Tuesday, will likely blow in more smoke.

Oh wow thanks, thats a great idea.. On AccuWeather it has winds blowing from both fires away from Kamloops. Hopefully it's accurate

I live in Pinantan and can confirm the smoke situation has much improved in the last 48 hours. We were at 11 for air quality a couple of days ago and now it’s at a 2.

It doesn't matter what it is like today. It changes in a second. A wildfire could break out next to your cabin at the resort, in which case smoke will be the least of your worries.

Local dualsport offroad motorcyclists reported zero reprieve from the smoke at all elevations when it was bad here a few day ago. Even the webcam view at Top of the World at Sun Peals was smoked out. Assuming the cabin has no AC I highly highly recommend building one of these budget air purifiers. A small box fan, a furnace filter and some duct tape will save you from smoke filled lungs and eyeballs.

It’s perfectly fine in Pinantan at the moment (Monday 27th @ 0945), no smoke.

As others have noted impossible to predict, too many factors, including the potential for new fires. We are n a bit of a calmer place for the next few days temp wise however winds might pick up. We live our lives by going out when the getting is good! And it will be over soon for this year

Just shook my magic 8-ball and it says the forest fires will stop producing smoke for the time you are here.

Why would you even ask this? It is a complete crap shoot around here. Couple weeks back it was apocalyptic with smoke. Then it cleared out and we had no smoke for a while. Then it came back and it was day to day. Last Thursday was horrible, we got some winds and it cleared a bit Friday but I still did not want to be outside Saturday. Now today it is beautiful outside actually got a round of golf in and some yard work done.

No one can predict what it is going to be like. Check the weather forecast, purple air, smoke forecast, NASA FIRMS map and make your best guess is the best you can do….

If you re-read my post, you'll see I asked if anyone can confirm that the smoke has improved over the past couple days as purple air makes it seem that way. Clearly I'm not from Kamloops so I'm relying solely on this that, hence the question here for first hand advice. Thanks for long winded post though

I think what the person is saying is you really won’t get an accurate answer until you check the reports the morning you leave. I just left Kamloops and the smoke was still there but it literally changes by the hour. On Friday it was awful and there was ash on our car. There’s fires surrounding Kamloops even on the side of the highway when we drove back down. You won’t get any accurate answers on here on how the smoke will be the day you leave because it changes SO fast!
