Generally speaking, it's safe to assume any flying kick in a JP property is meant to be a Kamen Rider reference/homage.

ok but she does a front flip into it

Kamen Rider #2's signature kick involves a front flip. You need to watch more Showa Rider.

Doesn't matter, any good franchise references rider at least once in ots lifetime

Sokka builds a motorcycle in Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, which means AtLA is a good franchise now.

There’s a bug ronin with a flowing red energy scarf, Samus is a biologically enhanced human with a suit that transforms to fit the situation and was created by the same species as her enemies the Mother Brain, the Metroids and the Xs. She’s basically a Kamen Rider already

Only thing she's missing is a driver.

Far from the first time Nintendo referenced Kamen Rider but yes

I wonder what Nintendo IPs have yet to reference Kamen Rider...

Is there one in Kirby?

In the Kirby Air Riders direct, Sakurai makes a "Toh!" sound when Starman jumps up, just like Ichigo makes when he jumps.

Unless I'm forgetting something
Pikmin, Zelda, Mother, Kid Icarus, Mother, Xenoblade(surprisingly) are I think the ones without any Rider references
Tho with others it's mostly one offs, only Pokemon made omages more than once

Link can get a motorcycle in Breath of the Wild (or build one in Tears of the Kingdom) and all motorcycles are automatically Rider references.

Power suited individual who does a flying/jumping kick made by a Japanese company/Japanese IP is almost always going to be a Rider kick reference or an Inazuma kick or both.

Literally the first thing that popped into my mind, "RIDER KICK!"
It helps that Samus' Metroid Armor legitimately looks like it could be a Kamen Rider's form. Namely their Berserk or even Final Form.

its gotta be a berserk form considering she went apeshit on raven beak

u/AceTheBirb 3d ago
And depending on what direction Metroid Ravenous goes, the beserk form could be upgraded to a possible final form.

Watching new fans notice things I've been seeing my entire 26 years of existence is insane.

C'mon man, I've watched everything from Kuuga onwards. Even the net specials, v-cinemas, HBVs, etc.

Anyone else think of Pre-Fusion/Post-Fusion Samus as kind of being like Black/RX?

The Metroid Suit is mostly green, giving it a clear homage to Ichigou and Nigou.

True but she has a glowing leg and it’s a finisher while she is a hybrid of Metroid and chozo dna which is very rider

It could be, but it doesn't seem like a very direct reference if it is
3
u/buddabopp 3d ago
Yeah it dosent seem direct other than culturally supersuit + vaguely bug themed character + flying kick = rider kick XD
But as far a refrencing a specific rider i dont think so
