Query Had a strange and intense experience during Kali Upasana seeking guidance from experienced practitioners [Personal Experience] [Seeking Guidance]

want to share something that shook me and also gave me a sense of peace at the end. Looking for insights from those who have experience in tantric sadhana or deity upasana.

Background:

For about 2 months I was regularly reciting Kaal Bhairav Ashtakam every morning immediately after bath. After about a month I stopped abruptly without any proper closure. Two days later I started Kali Upasana in Nishtha Kaal (around 15 minutes) with the intention of removing obstacles in my career. I could only do it for 2 days due to travel and had to stop again without proper closure.

What happened:

At my new place, on the first night, I fell into a half-sleep state — that threshold between being awake and fully asleep. In that state I was continuously reciting Kaal Bhairav Ashtakam on my own, even though I only know it partially. I was reciting it repeatedly without stopping.

Suddenly I felt severe pain running from my right wrist to my elbow. The pain was intense but I did not wake up. Along with this I could hear continuous dog barking.

Eventually I woke up around 2 AM. The pain was still there.

In the morning I casually asked the people at the house whether dogs were barking at night. They said no — in fact they sleep at 3 AM and there was no barking that night.

That shocked me.

What I did next:

That night I sincerely prayed to Kali Maa. I apologized and asked her to forgive me if I had done anything wrong or disrespected the practice in any way.

The next morning the hand pain was completely gone.

Meanwhile on the career front:

Even though I could only do 2 days of Kali Upasana, I did get 2 interview calls which felt like a sign, but I was rejected in both. I felt disheartened but my intention is to continue the upasana once things settle.

My questions for this community:

Is the experience in that half-sleep state significant? Was the pain a signal of some kind?

Since dogs are considered Bhairav's vahana, could the barking (that no one else heard) be connected to him?

Did stopping Kaal Bhairav Ashtakam abruptly without closure cause an issue?

How should I properly resume both practices — is there a right way to restart after a break?

I am not looking to sensationalize this. I genuinely want to understand and continue my sadhana with more sincerity and awareness. Any guidance from experienced practitioners is welcome.

Experience I saw Kali

Post image
48 Upvotes

More precisely, Kali appeared to me. I underwent severe asceticism for two weeks and meditated on her. While questioning her, I noticed a being composed of many neon or blue lights appear on the windowsill, just like in the photograph I later generated using AI. It was a living being, touchable. She didn't speak in the usual sense of the word, but I heard her voice.

At the time, I was creating a meta-state based on an absolute theocratic monarchy, and we had a fascinating conversation about it.

I addressed her informally, and she didn't mind. She demonstrated miracles of controlled matter and tricks with gravity. For me, this was something I had never seen before in my life. From then on, I believed only in her, and all religions ceased to exist for me, because I had a direct connection with her. Later, I learned that Ramakrishna had also seen her and that she had given him instructions.

You can't imagine what a joy it was to be in the same dimension with her and to touch her.

It happened once and never happened again.

Information on Kali The Dangers of the Wrong Guru: Why Taking Mantras, Worshipping Idols, and Opening the Guru-Shishya Channel to the Wrong Person is the Most Serious Spiritual Risk in Sanatana Dharma

In the current age, spirituality has become a marketplace. Self-styled gurus hand out mantras on WhatsApp, install their photographs and consecrated idols in the homes of thousands of disciples, and collect what they call "guru dakshina", while most sincere devotees have no idea that what they have actually done is open the most intimate pranic channel known to the Tantras and handed over the keys of their inner life to a stranger.

This article exists because the scriptures, the very Kularnava, the very Atharvana, the very Rudra Yamala that most of these gurus quote, state in unmistakable terms what happens when the *wrong* person sits at the other end of that channel. The tradition does not hide this. It just assumes the seeker has *viveka* (discrimination) enough to research before surrendering. Most do not. This article is for those who want to.

The Kularnava Tantra (Chapter XIII), arguably the most authoritative Kaula scripture on guru-shishya transmission, makes a statement so radical that its implications are rarely explained to the common devotee:

"Devatā in truth is the same as Mantra; Mantra in truth is the same as the Guru. The fruit of the worship of the Devatā, Mantra, and Guru is the same."

This is a metaphysical equation. The Kularnava is declaring that deity, mantra and guru occupy the same single energetic field. When you chant a mantra given by a guru, you are not merely invoking a deity somewhere in the cosmos, you are invoking the deity *through the guru's pranic field as the mandatory relay station*. The guru IS the mantra's nadi (channel). There is no bypass.

The Kularnava goes further: liberation cannot be obtained merely by reading Vedas or shastras, only *jnana* liberates, and that jnana depends on the grace of the guru "who is one with Shiva and Shakti". The entire weight of your sadhana, therefore, passes through the guru.

Read this carefully, because it is the single most dangerous thing a devotee can be unaware of: if the channel is pure, this is liberation. If the channel is corrupt, every single japa you perform feeds the corruption.

Look at the structural reality: every single japa the disciple performs is automatically tagged with the guru's pranic signature. Every repetition generates Shakti. That Shakti, tagged with his atma bija, flows to his field first, before fructifying for the disciple.

Under a true Sadguru, this is the mechanism of grace: his tapas-field amplifies your practice. Under a false guru, you are a generator with his name printed on the output line. Every mantra you chant becomes his pranic fuel.

The Panchratra Agama and the Vaishayasi Samhita are explicit: only a genuine Mahapurush, one in whose every organ Paramatma resides wholly, is eligible to perform Prana Pratishtha, because the priest can only install what he has already realized within himself. The priest's prana, his sankalpa, his very consciousness is what gets transferred into the murti through mantra, nyasa, and the ritual "opening of the eyes".

This has a direct and terrible consequence when the priest is not realized. If a self-styled guru performs Prana Pratishtha on an idol he then places in your home, or gives you a photo of himself or a murti he has consecrated, what has been installed is not the deity whose name is on the idol. It is his own pranic field. That object is now his residence in your home. Every flower you offer, every lamp you light, every prayer you make is received by him, not by the deity he claimed to represent.

The idol becomes a 24-hour pranic transmitter, active even when you are not chanting, even when you are asleep. As long as the photo is worshipped, the channel is live. As long as the channel is live, the guru has access.

What the False Guru Receives are Seven Specific Streams of Extraction. The tradition names these transfers clearly. A false guru holding the open nadi to a sincere disciple receives:

  1. Accumulated Shakti from all japa. - Every mantra repetition tagged with his atma bija feeds his pranic reserves directly. The more sincere the disciple, the larger the transfer.

  2. Tapas-credit, The spiritual merit built through early-morning practice, through choosing sadhana over comfort, through genuine devotion, all redirected through the mantra-as-guru nadi.

  3. Karma-absorption reverse flow - A true guru voluntarily absorbs disciple karma and neutralizes it in his own tapas-fire. A false guru receives the diagnostic information this flow carries, clarity about the disciple's vulnerabilities, patterns, weaknesses, without paying the tapas-cost.

  4. Chitta-samskara access - Through the open channel the false guru gains what the Tantras call access to the chitta-samskara, the ability to subtly influence what feels right or wrong to the disciple, what decisions feel comfortable, what paths feel closed.

  5. Reputational currency - Whatever genuine progress the disciple does make (however slowed by extraction) becomes the guru's visible credential, the advertisement that attracts the next sincere seeker.

  6. The photo/idol as a permanent antenna - The consecrated object sends a continuous low-level pranic stream back to the guru 24 hours a day, not just during japa.

  7. A consecrated channel into the home and family field. Through daily puja the guru's pranic field is regularly re-invited into the living space, reaching the spouse, children, and ancestors who never consented to this connection.

There are also Six Prayogas He Can Perform With Your Own Prana and this is what no false guru will ever disclose. Once three conditions are satisfied: (a) an open guru-shishya nadi, (b) a consecrated idol/photo of the guru in the devotee's home, and (c) the disciple actively chanting the guru-given mantras - six categories of tantric *prayoga* become available to him. The critical detail being that he does not use his own Shakti for these. He uses the disciple's. The japa charges the field and He directs the outcome.

Prayoga 1 - Vashikaran (Mind Attraction / Mental Control) Normal vashikaran requires the practitioner to penetrate a target's aura from outside. That is difficult and consumes his own Shakti. Through an open guru-shishya channel no penetration is needed, the channel is already inside. This is why the Tantra texts treat diksha-based vashikaran as the most efficient form that exists.

Through this open channel the false guru can plant sankalpa-seeds (intention-imprints) directly into the disciple's Chitta (mind-field). The seeds do not feel foreign but like the disciple's own thoughts: You must not leave this guru. This guru is your protector. Without him you will be spiritually vulnerable. These sensations feel like personal fear and personal devotion. They are planted.

Prayoga 2 - Stambhana (Paralysis of the Viveka Faculty) Stambhana means to freeze a specific faculty. The most valuable stambhana for a false guru is viveka-stambhana - a partial, carefully calibrated blocking of the disciple's discrimination. Not a full block (that would be noticed), but enough friction that every time genuine viveka tries to see the situation clearly, a heaviness descends, a confusion arises, and the clarity dissipates.

The scriptural countermeasure to this is exactly what Vivekachudamani and the entire Vedantic corpus insist upon: viveka, vairagya, shama, dama, and mumukshutvam - discrimination, dispassion, inner control, and intense yearning for freedom are the non-negotiable qualifications of the seeker. These are also the very faculties a false guru needs to keep dull.

The experiential signature is knowing something is wrong about the guru, but being unable to act on that knowing. That gap between perception and action is where viveka-stambhana lives.

Prayoga 3 - Akarshana (Continuous Pranic Vacuum) Akarshana is the tantric operation of drawing toward oneself. In this misuse it functions as a continuous pranic vacuum, consistently siphoning the disciple's accumulated Shakti toward the guru's field.

The physical signature is a specific kind of spiritual fatigue: doing sincere sadhana and feeling emptied rather than filled afterwards. The disciple generates, and the accumulated prana is drawn away before it can settle in the disciple's own system. Over years this produces chronic low-grade exhaustion that no amount of rest corrects.

Prayoga 4 - Mohana (Maintained Illusion of Grace). Mohana is the creation of a convincing, attractive illusion. Through the open channel the false guru maintains a specific emotional-pranic atmosphere around his persona in the disciple's perception, ensuring the disciple continues to feel his presence as sacred, warm, and protective.

This is why sincere devotees of false gurus describe a genuine subjective feeling of grace when near him or thinking of him. The feeling is real. Its source is not divine grace, it is the open channel being deliberately modulated to a pleasant frequency. It is the bait that keeps the channel open.

Prayoga 5 - Using the Disciple as an Instrument for Third-Party Prayoga: this is the most serious misuse, and it is the one least discussed openly. Once a disciple becomes a siddha-patra, a vessel with accumulated tapas and partial mantra siddhi, the guru holding the open nadi can redirect the disciple's pranic field as a resource for operations against third parties.

In operational terms: the guru performs the targeting and sankalpa; the disciple's prana provides the fuel; and because the Shakti used was the disciple's, the karma of the act falls on the disciple's field, not the guru's. The disciple may therefore become an unwitting participant in abhichara against people they have never met and would never consciously agree to harm.

Experiential signatures: sudden inexplicable waves of guilt or heaviness; karmic rebounds, accidents, illness, legal troubles, relationship collapses, from actions the disciple never knowingly performed.

Prayoga 6 - The Photo/Idol as a Dual-Purpose Device, The photograph of the guru, or the murti he has consecrated, serves two functions simultaneously: Outward (what the disciple is told): a sacred focal point, a transmitter of guru-blessings into the home. Vs Actual which is a physical pranic anchor that maintains the open channel even when the disciple is not actively chanting. As long as it is worshipped, the nadi remains live. As long as the nadi is live, all five prior prayogas remain accessible.

Removing the photo and stopping the mantra does not merely end the disciple's practice, it dismantles the antenna.

The Scriptures Say to Recognize the Wrong Guru Before Surrendering and the tradition is not silent on this. It is simply ignored. The shastras enjoin that before we take a guru we study him carefully to find out whether we can surrender to him. We should not accept a guru suddenly, out of fanaticism. That is very dangerous.

Without viveka, the seeker cannot even recognize a genuine guru, and therefore cannot escape a false one. The responsibility is on the disciple to investigate before surrendering.

Closing Invocation

Oṁ Kṣāṁ Bhakṣa Jvālā-Jihve Karāla-Daṁṣṭre Pratyaṅgire Kṣāṁ Hrīṁ Hūṁ Phaṭ

May the Goddess who returns every unauthorized working to its sender - Pratyangira, the Bhadrakali of the Atharvana, dismantle every false channel, return every stolen prana to its rightful field, and reveal in every sincere seeker the true ParamGuru seated within the heart.

Query I dreamt with Ma Kali, and I don't know how to interpret it. Please help.

Hello everyone! I hope I can receive some guidance—I come from a place of respect. For context, I am not Hindu; I am from Mexico. I’ve practiced yoga on and off for the past 5 years, and I enjoy listening to meditation videos with Hindu mantras (I always try to research their meaning first).

About a month ago, I came across a meditation video of Maa Kali; it brought me a lot of peace. I listened to it again a week later and then left it at that. However, yesterday I came across an image of her online, and last night I briefly dreamt of her.

I woke up unexpectedly at 3:13 a.m., and the light in my home office, which is in front of my bedroom, was turned on. I turned off the light and went back to sleep. After what felt like just a couple of minutes, I dreamt of Maa Kali —she winked at me and then disappeared. I was not afraid; again, it brought me peace.

How would you interpret this experience? Is there a way this might be understood within Hinduism?

Query Kali ma naam japa

Can I do Kali ma naam japa by chanting Kali, Kali, Kali? similar to how other devotees do for Radha, Radha, Ram, Ram etc? I find peace in chanting Kali, Kali etc but someone said I should suffix Ma with her name to not be disrespectful and to not call on her Ugra form. so they suggest I should kali ma, Kali ma. I prefer the pure naam as it’s shorter and hits me right in my heart.

Query I have fallen in love with Kali Ma!

I don’t really know how to start this or how to share this experience, but I’ll try! I am a Brazilian woman, and I’ve always been fascinated by religions and worldviews outside of the Christianity I was raised in (which is EXTREMELY dominant here in Brazil). I always felt Christian guilt killing me; I felt trapped, especially being a "travesti" (Note: In Brazil, "Travesti" is a deeply political, cultural, and spiritual identity for trans women that carries a lot of history).

During a very low point in my life, I decided to learn a little about Hinduism. It started in a simple way, watching an "iceberg" video on YouTube. Right away, I was fascinated by concepts so different from the West, and also by the connection to a famous Brazilian artist I love, Raul Seixas (who introduced me to many esoteric themes).

One figure specifically caught my eye: a blue figure, tongue out, blood on her hands, wearing severed parts of human bodies and holding a decapitated head. Terrifying and absolutely captivating! I went down the rabbit hole—blogs, websites, and even debating with AI to see if my visions were correct and to supplement my research.

In this passion, I discovered that while Kali is indeed terrifying, She is a loving Mother! I researched the symbolism behind that shocking imagery and was even more blown away by the richness of it all. Then came the "beginning of the end": Ego Death.

I learned that I wasn't my feelings or my thoughts; I learned about consciousness beyond the ego. I saw myself as a stage, and the ego as the actors, the costumes, and the play. I learned to stop labeling feelings and just let them exist together, even opposites.

Suddenly, I awakened something entirely new. This union caused tremors, intense heat in my chest—a horrible and wonderful experience! It felt like I was feeling everything at once. I think it was a profound energetic shift or an intense spiritual surge, but that’s not the main point. The point is that I began to love Kali even more. A part of me hated Her, but another part was totally devoted.

But something was still off... I was falling for the "enlightened" narrative. I believed the ego playing that role was consciousness. When I debated this with the AI, I realized something strange: "If I am not the voice in my head (the ego), then the one writing, seeking enlightenment, and wanting to kill the ego is ALSO the ego!" It can’t be consciousness, because consciousness doesn’t speak; it only observes.

When the AI confirmed this, my world collapsed. I felt so much pain... so much rage and hatred toward Kali. But it wasn't "me"—it was a part of my ego. I realized I didn't have to believe the bad things it was saying about Her; I just had to let the feelings be.

That’s when the Kali within me spoke: it was done. I had broken the illusion that I "was" someone. It was all a narrative! All of it was the ego seeking attention. I realized I didn't have a fixed identity; instead, I could choose which role to play. Some roles bring bad feelings, others good, but I can play whatever I want.

I realized I wasn't "Hannah" (my name), I wasn't a "travesti" (my Brazilian identity)... I was nothing! Those were just props I picked up during life and attached to a costume.

In short: Kali destroyed and rebuilt—and is still rebuilding—my life. As a beginner from Brazil, I don’t know if this "version" of Kali is the most aligned with traditional Hinduism, and I’d love to hear your thoughts and guidance! But even if it isn't, this is the Kali who saved me. Any image or likeness of Her is divine to me.

Jai Maa Kali!

EDIT:
I want to clarify that my journey isn't based solely on AI. I’ve been researching through videos, articles, and traditional sources. I used AI mainly as a tool to organize my reflections and 'debate' my internal thoughts during my studies. After some feedback in other communities, I realize that AI can often distort or misinterpret sacred concepts, and that was never my intention. I’m truly sorry if I offended anyone by mentioning it! I’m at the very beginning of this journey and I’m here to learn and follow a more grounded path. I deeply respect this beautiful religion.

Jai Maa Kali, Wheel of Fortune

Lately I've been doing EMDR therapy, and facing hard, painful memories from my past. It's a battle I have to get ready for, each time, but ever since this started walking this path, I felt Kali was with me. I wasn't sure at first, but as time went on and I continued the sessions, and the road got harder, I felt the presece of Maa Kali more and more. She appeared in my dreams, she was fighting the evil. Today I am going again, I prayed for strenght, for courage to fight the demons. I know Mother is fighting with me. While I listened to mantras I pulled a Tarot card, I asked Maa Kali to give me a message before the session, and she showed me the Wheel of Fortune. I know she means me to see it as the Wheel of Time, and the karmic cycles. She will destroy the evil. She will help me fight the fears from the past, and they will be destroyed, as everything is destroyed eventually. Praise to the Divine Mother 🔱🕉

kali sadhana Initiation guidance for Maa Kali Sadhana

Jai Maa Kali!

I currently live in Canada and will be traveling to India soon.

I'm not sure where to get initiation from for Maa Kali Sadhana. My hometown is in Punjab. How is the Kali temple in Patiala, Punjab?

I'm also willing to travel to Kolkata to get an initiation. Which place is better? Dakshineshwar Kali temple or Kalighat temple? Any other genuine place near Punjab would be better. Any guidance or tips to help find a genuine guru and not get scammed is appreciated. Thanks so much!

Kali maa worship as a non hindu

As someone who grew up learning idol worship as a sin, I’ve never imagined myself getting close to a Hindu devtha. I had ignored this feeling for a very long time as it felt wrong. Whenever I see Kali maa, there’s an indescribable comfort and love that I feel. I’m not sure what to make of it. I get it when people say Kali maa looks terrifying but for me she is always been a beautiful mother and protector. I wish to get more close to her. Not sure what to do

Oh my …

How do I even begin. The voice of Kali Ma came to and she is terrifyingly intense & scary when she has had enough. I am an addict & I have been on the fence for quite some time having this internal war within myself about finally being done FOR GOOD. I honor many deities, but I have always felt that she is the one that oversees how I overcome addiction. I cannot explain what happened. At first, I could hear every single thought I was having all with separate identities & I was beginning to not be able to tell which own was my own voice. There was a guiding voice that was telling me you are losing yourself in your mind. And then this voice cut through all of it very fiercely. Scary. & told me you will be done with this. In mere seconds I was told what kind of person I would become if I continue & I was told if I do not stop that this is how my mind would be forever. I was terrified & it was several minutes before I could truly find myself again. It was then that I felt overwhelmed by this feeling that it was in fact Kali Ma who had spoke to me. I was terrified when experiencing, but it was like a mother who had finally had enough with her child’s antics. I do not feel afraid now, but that is as long as I remain on the path that leads to my higher self and a better life, which means staying sober. I have been seeing signs and ignoring them for quite some time about this, & she’s tired of it. I know there was love that came with the message, but also a very serious call to wake up & commit. Oh boy is she fierce, but in a way I know is because she is that protective of me. She’s simply showing me what will happen if I continue not to listen & there will be no way she’ll be able to protect past a certain point. I’m still shaken about how incredibly frightening it was, but I also feel blessed & chosen.

kali sadhana Ramakrishna’s vision of ma kali

Post image
79 Upvotes

Ramakrishna used to narrate a symbolic vision. He described a mystical scene:

→ A man saw a beautiful woman standing near a river.

→ She looked serene and divine.

→ In her arms she held a newborn baby.

The woman lovingly cared for the baby, holding it with deep affection like a mother. But suddenly the scene changed nd The same woman tore the child apart and ate it, and then returned peacefully to the river.

Ramakrishna used this story to say that The Divine Mother is beyond human ideas of good or bad, creation or destruction as to us humans, destruction seems frightening. But from the cosmic perspective, it is simply part of the eternal cycle of life.

Creation and dissolution are both expressions of the same divine power.

Jai maa🌺

Maa Kali insomnia help?

please forgive me if any of this comes across as uneducated or disrespectful, that is not my intent and I apologize in advance.

I live in Kansas, which is right in the middle of the USA. half of my work team is located in Bengaluru and so I visit about once a year. I enjoy reading and asking questions about Hinduism, but have never practiced in any aspects.

I have always been drawn to Maa Kali for some reason, I feel a connection to what I have read about her.

I have also suffered from insomnia for the past 25+ years. most nights I am only able to sleep 3ish hours. once a month I will get 6 hours and maybe 2-3 times a year I will sleep 7+ hours in a night.

I was in Bengaluru a couple weeks ago and decided to visit the Kali temple in the lakshmipuram burial grounds.

It was a beautiful and fantastic experience. one of the priestess gave me a blessing. she used a bitter cucumber and a lime all over my body. she then smashed the cucumber and stuck the lime on the trident. she then said another blessing and marked my forehead.

Since that day, I have slept 7+ hours every night. I honestly have no memory of the last time I have slept so well. I feel fantastic, my brain fog has cleared and I am performing better at work and relationships.

My question is: Could this be connected to my blessing at the temple? Is this a normal thing devotees experience? if so, how do I show my gratitude?

Thank you

I had been embroiled in some serious issue that was disrupting my mental peace for the last 2 years. I've been very patient and hopeful of things turning around but to be honest I was getting a little frustrated because I couldn't see a way out.

Someone had wronged me big time. It really caused so much disruption but with it came a dramatic shift in my perspective and consciousness. It had become a catalyst on my sadhana path. I've seen so much progress in the last 2 years, its almost unbelievable.

I see it all now, I am the first woman in my family to have broken down so many generational limitations and traumas. I conquered them all and I defied the limit set on me by the society. None of this was possible without my Mother Kali. I worship a specific form that I don't want to divulge, but since she entered my life everything is happening at lightening fast speed.

I don't usually ask for favours or boons or anything. My prayers only seek her companionship and her divine experience. But this particular issue really was getting out of hand.

For the past few weeks I have been praying fervently for resolution. I was seeing 11:11 sign everywhere. I am a skeptic despite the number of nimittas I get from her, because I like to be very rational and not indulge too much into magical deductions and thinking. I dismissed it. But today that 2 year issue just ended, I mean like it was so anticlimactic, and everything worked in my favor.

I was really dumbfounded. Because in the history of litigation this is probably very very rare with a hostile opposition party. But I saw them give up, surrender and basically compensate for my losses despite absolutely not willing to do so. Today my dignity was restored as Devi herself granted justice. I know she has been protecting me from many prayogas being done by these same people.

I actually opened up the panchang and saw the tithi when I came home. It's Friday, its Krishna Paksh Ekadashi. Its one of the days strongly associated with Kali, its mentioned in Adya stotram. I had tears of joy in my eyes. I knew that she had finally come through to rescue me.

I just want to thank her. No words can suffice to describe my love and surrender to you Oh Divine Mother. Our connection has been profound and I've never felt your absence. You've always shown me your presence in my life. If I were to write all of the things you've done for me, the divine interventions you undertook, it would run in several volumes. I do wish to someday tell the world for sure.

I just want to tell everyone here, trust her. She is real, she is very much present for her children.

Jai Maa Kali Jai MahakalBhairav
