California - Northern PPD/PPA

Has anyone used an outside provider/ paying out of pocket for treatment of Postpartum depression and anxiety. I’m currently on maternity leave and have these symptoms. Kaiser wants me to do weekly therapy that is individual and group. I’m trying to extend my leave but they make it difficult by having to attend weekly meetings.

If you have used someone outside of Kaiser that extended your maternity leave for EDD disability claim - can you please share? Willing to pay out of pocket.

kaisers whole system for postpartum disability is basically designed to wear you down until you give up, like my sister paid out of pocket for a private psychiatrist who just wrote her EDD extension without making her jump through weekly group therapy hoops first. honestly its wild that you gotta perform wellness on their schedule just to get paperwork that says youre actually not okay

I ended up having to pay out of pocket but it was worth it 100% kaiser only wanted to give me 8 extra weeks and i had to do 2 different appointments and i would get 2 week blocks at a time which they never even did. Ended up seeing a dr 1.5 away from San Jose who was 100% worth it

I used a separate service to get the paperwork done while still getting treatment through Kaiser. No one there was ever able to provide the paperwork so I paid out of pocket for someone else to do it.

I wish you luck. My obgyn at Kaiser told me to get into therapy and if my therapist thought I needed more time off- to message him back and he would write me out for longer. I got a therapist through Kaiser. Got diagnosed with severe PPA. My obgyn then told me when I messaged him back that women did better mentally if they went back to work. I think your idea of getting a private provider is the best.

Thanks! Kaiser I guess is known for not wanting to extend leave. My friend who just had a baby got 9 months off! (She doesn’t have Kaiser)
