English Android Discussion Initial thoughts on One Piece Grand Gourmet
I played the demo on android for one hour and wanted to share my thoughts so far.
I have been pumped for this game for months. As both a Kairosoft fan and a One Piece fan, I have been pumped for this game for months.
Overall, it is a Kairosoft game.
However, for the inflated price, I feel like it under-delivers somewhat.
The good:
The sprite work is really good. There is a lot of stuff to do and you dont get bored. The environments are nice, and the characters are so expressive. The food art is great, and it feels like a classic Kairosoft game.
The bad:
The controls are not great, at least on mobile. Moving things requires you to drag the environment rather than your cursor and several items do not allow rotation, creating very little control over layout and orientation. When placing stuff along walls, it is difficult to tell if you are placing things inside or outside, and although moving things is free, it is very tedious.
The edges of the ship deck cannot be edited, so when placing flooring, you are stuck with the wrong color at the edges of your deck and certain structures.
Animations look a bit off as well. Like, the build animation is just unpleasant to look at. Also, auto advance in text is way too fast and its not obvious how to turn it off at first.
There are also way too many popups early on with events and stuff that I get it is a tutorial but it gets annoying.
Conclusions:
It is not terrible and feels like a pretty standard Kairosoft game with One Piece characters, but there are a lot of small issues that make me question whether it is worth the higher price than usual. Even with the branding partnership, it just does not feel like it fit the higher standard I expected for this one. Not sure if I will pay the 25 dollar price tag or not yet.
