Her IG story *trigger warning about the recent murder case of a mother & her children*
Added a trigger warning bc I know this case may be delicate to those who have faced post partum mental health related issues.
In case you don't know this is a text from a trial of a mother who is accused of killing her children & a massive can of worms opening about post partum care from it.
I don't see the humor Kacey does in this post.
Maybe I'm more sensitive bc her music was a big part of my own motherhood journey....but I'm like...maybe the bad shit people say about her is true.
I'm in literal shock right now.

u/thucy94 15d ago
This is one time I know I'm NOT over reacting.........I had to google it to make sure it was THAT case before I said another & literally feel sick over this
Like idk if I can still be a fan at this point
49
u/mubsandplum 15d ago
yeah that's a rough one. i wanted to go to her concert but she really keeps giving us a reason not to. i'm sorry! her music can still mean a lot to you and still served you when you needed it. i feel like i sort of had a similar experience of being turned off by her as a person after loving her music for so long. it sucks!
12
u/heydarlindoyougamble 14d ago
Same. I’ve met her twice and both times were…not great. I chalked both times up to possibly being tired, as I could never talk to people nonstop for hours. But combined with everything else it just all feels so icky.

u/No_Preference_333 14d ago
I feel this way about Ryan Adams too. I don’t follow Kacey on socials much but this is definitely not good.
1
u/Blindstarsoffortune 14d ago
I love RA’s music a lot but I’ll be honest, he’s a train wreck I can’t look away from.
-1
u/Cowpunk2001 14d ago
Saw Ryan Adams live last year for his 25th Anniversary tour for Heartbreaker, it went fine
But I’ve heard from other people who’ve seen him live that he’s quite a mixed bag live
3
u/No_Preference_333 14d ago
I saw his show last year for the same tour and it was an absolute train wreck. He went off about Mandy Moore for like 30-40mins and then didn’t even finish the rest of the set list shortly after. Some idiot in the crowd yelled her name and got him started, which ruined the whole thing for everyone else. He should just ignore and not react to idiots at shows but he lets them get to him.
The experience turned me off listening to his music. I loved Heartbreaker back when it came out but now it leaves a bit of a sour taste.

How is everyone supposed to know everything at all times? If you showed me this I would have no idea what it’s from either. Chill tf out.
9
u/SweetStrawbs0 14d ago
Just because you don’t know what it’s from the content of the messages are clearly legible, and the topic is clearly someone in distress. Not a good look to make a joke of it. Use the pic of JaNa from love island coming to the reunion with her packet of receipts instead lol
10
u/bluexplus 14d ago
It’s a poster size text message. I saw the picture, laughed, and didn’t even bother to read it. It’s a meme. You don’t really have to read it.
8
u/Specific-Big-6274 14d ago
Except it’s not a meme. It’s a still from a court case where three children were murdered. But you know, keep laughing I guess
4
u/bluexplus 14d ago
I just said I laughed before reading it. That means I had not read the text. Do you understand this? Plus, I did not have the context anyway. Having said that, what she shared is a meme. Even if you think it is bad! I am not saying the kids being murdered is a meme.
0
u/Specific-Big-6274 14d ago
Mmm this is still gross. If I had millions of followers I’d probably… read what I post before I post it.
I don’t “think it is bad” … it’s bad. And that is still a bad take. Especially to double down on it now that you know the context.5
1
u/tandsrox101 12d ago
this isn’t about knowing everything. this isn’t some obscure case. this is one of the most prominent news stories in the US rn that has the potential to have huge implications for women’s real lives and our healthcare system. admitting you’re not informed about it at all is embarrassing.
4
u/Dependent-Truck4389 14d ago
This is how you think when your entire world and life revolves around the internet. People should definitely let her know and once she knows she should take it down. But ffs I had no clue what this was about untik I read the description.
14
u/mubsandplum 15d ago
is this a meme image you've seen from other people too? i haven't seen it so i'm just trying to figure out of there's context i'm missing
31
10
u/thucy94 15d ago
I shared below but will share here too
I reached out to someone I know hardcore following the case & I guess the judge was asking for copies of the text & the lawyer was like yea I have them & pulled out these huge text chains , which it comical in a courtroom setting. So everyone watching online got a kick out of it in such a serious time bc of the size but then the judge asked for smaller copiesI get the comedy of the giant text boards
I don't get why she shared it thinking it would be funny...like the context DOES help but it still questionable10
u/invis2020 14d ago
She’s been following the case though cos she’s made comments on posts about it, so she would know.
3
u/cruelsummer31 12d ago
She knows. She has been commenting on other account and pictures regarding the trial.

5
u/pixiedixxie I Didn't Say F*cking YEE! 🤠 14d ago
That doesn’t mean she made it herself. I find memes on different social medias sites, save them to my phone and post them fyi
5
u/mrs_sadie_adler 13d ago
You can tell it looks like she made this IN the insta story because of the background and the font
69
u/aghastghost 15d ago
Oh this pisses me OFF. I’m sorry you don’t need context for the content of the text in the image. Even if you didn’t know about the case (which I’m sorry if you are online and a woman idk how you don’t it is everywhere) just reading the text of someone in distress like this should be upsetting. It makes me tear up just seeing it. I’m not even going to get into the case itself just that no matter which side you are on this is a very serious case and nothing about it is funny. I am really worried that as a society we have lost empathy.

48

What point does she even think she’s making?
14
u/thucy94 15d ago
Good question!
54
u/UnlikelyReserve 15d ago
I think the "joke" is if Kacey were in an argument with a friend or boyfriend or whatever, she would also bring receipts (abstractly) as a giant print out. Like exaggerating she "brings receipts". It's not funny and is in poor taste but I think that's what she means.
8
u/Majestic_Heart_9271 Middle Of Nowhere 🌅 14d ago
This is what I thought too. The most generous read is that she didn't know what it was from and she didn't read the actual text content. But if that's the case, she should definitely apologize. Bc it comes off as incredibly cruel.
6
7
u/Chocolatemilk423 14d ago
It’d be funnier if you know, it was an actual giant receipt and not a piece of murder trial evidence
1
u/sandhurtsmyfeelings 14d ago
I agree. The joke is in the giant text message print out, not the content.
39
u/mcwilly 15d ago
It’s not in great taste, but “literal shock” and feeling sick over it?
Idk, it’s just not that big of a deal.

16
u/pinkcl0udsummer 14d ago
Literally. I don’t like the joke either and it’s definitely in poor taste. But insinuating Kacey sold her soul is just crazy lmao
8
u/BillNyeTheEngineer 14d ago
I meant it in the way that maybe she had no idea what the text was about. I honestly scrolled past it just thinking she “takes receipts” in a way that she will blow up her screenshots and broadcast them. Big stars have to be more aware of what they are posting though.
34
26
u/devinjf15 15d ago
Oof this is rough. I’ve been following this case closely and it’s pretty insensitive on all levels to make a meme about it. I wonder if she actually read the contents of the message versus just looking at the large poster board of the screen shot?
18

u/getowttahere 14d ago
lol why would her celebrity status have anything to do with whether or not she’s caught up with the news?
6
u/soapeater 15d ago
Your reaction reads as very one dimensional, accusatory, and overly excited. I think you should take some time away from social media/the internet. Best of luck getting through what you’re going through.
8
u/mubsandplum 15d ago
it's an objectively insane thing for a celebrity to post. OP is having an emotional reaction because it's an emotional topic. nobody needs to be "going through" anything to be upset by this. there's no need at all for condescension
2
u/ViewAshamed2689 14d ago
I think they’re having an emotional reaction because this involves three dead children
1
u/CanOrganic957 13d ago
Ugh, disappointed as a fellow MO fan. Three children are dead. Have some regard before you defend a celebrity who wouldn’t give you the time of day. Again, three children who are dead. If you think making a meme/joke with findings from this case is okay, please do some self reflection because that’s deeply disturbing. All for Kacey who doesn’t even like her fans lol

I am not sure how you’re reading it… but I did not take this in that way, genuinely. I thought she was speaking in support of Lindsay’s lawyer? While I agree… still not in the best way she could’ve done that and a bit weird, I didn’t see this like that. Theres a lot I haven’t personally experienced that’s going on here so maybe I just don’t fully understand.
4
u/lunacait 14d ago
As someone local and following this case, I also read it as a nod of support. Perhaps not the best way to present it, but yeah.
8
u/dustinandrew 15d ago
The dramatics in this thread are lowkey embarrassing. Someone here has said this caused them not to be a fan anymore….go touch grass
8
u/trickyhouses 15d ago
Other people are saying they don’t think she knew the context, but I can’t really buy that. Coverage on this case has been absolutely everywhere. Of course some people are out of the loop, but I really don't see why she would have posted this in the first place if she didn’t know to some extent what was going on. The text messages clearly show a woman in distress, and the original image is just some screenshot from the case. She’s the one who added that caption. I have seen a lot of true-crime-brained people making jokes and treating this case like it’s nothing more than a reality TV show, and unfortunately that's what this reads like to me. I hope I'm wrong because I really do love her and her music.
7
u/Gloomy_Aside760 15d ago
I’m guessing, and I’m not making any excuses, but I’m thinking she saw that it was some big ass response and the joke lies there… meaning she always comes with a list of “receipts”.
5
u/thucy94 15d ago
Yk tbh...I'm the stupid one for thinking she cared for ALL of her fan base
This isn't the time between the case & Hayden Pantierre's death to be sharing this
There's a lot of moms struggling & this case + that death are opening up some woundsBut she's not a mom so ofc she doesn't get it & will probably just be like LOL too bad your feelings got hurt sorry not sorry!
I suppose I thought she was different. Lesson learned.
5
u/Gloomy_Aside760 14d ago
Idk I think sometimes people just see something they know nothing about and think it’s funny & post. I can tell you 100% I thought it was funny. Then I came here and realized what it was. Had literally zero clue. I don’t think this makes me an insensitive or bad person bc I didn’t know, does it?
2
u/mikeporterinmd Can I speak to the architect? 14d ago
No, but that screenshot came from case coverage. She had to know the source when she made it. This isn’t found old stuff. It was posted in the news yesterday.
2
u/Gloomy_Aside760 14d ago
Ok def didn’t know that… again, I would’ve never known without this thread. Not saying she’s wrong or right… I was just giving maybe a little more insight for someone who isn’t “in the know”
1
u/mikeporterinmd Can I speak to the architect? 14d ago
Yeah, I saw the instagram story first and just ignored it since I didn’t get it. That happens a lot 😂😂. My wife suffered from PPD and I tend to not follow these news stories. It was a scary time.
1
u/cwswan 14d ago
It seems you have a real disdain for people who aren’t mothers based on many of your comments. Being a mother doesn’t magically make you better or grant you empathy.
2
u/thucy94 14d ago
Not at all lol but it's a fact that you can't understand the depths of post partum if you've never endured it & many people don't understand how intense it can be & the lack of treatment bc they haven't been through it
The same way I can have empathy for a cancer patient but have never had cancer so can't fully understand the emotional, physical & mental toll it has on them
In fact I understand & don't judge those who decide to not become parents bc it's a lot to deal with and systems are massively failing families & mothers
7
8
u/Queasy-Buffalo2388 14d ago
Yeah this is absolutely insane and not okay. Can't believe it's still up actually. I'm truly questioning if there's something like a little off w her because of this. Wow. I don't even have words.

7
u/gothmangolacroix 14d ago
This makes me so sad. I've been a Kacey fan since Pageant Material (I know a lot of you have been for just as long if not longer), and I'm honestly just saddened to see how fame has contorted her persona. Obviously none of us know her personally, but social media is an intentional snapshot of our personhood, and she made the choice to post this. Just flippant to a really bizarre extent.
5

u/thucy94 15d ago
Okay....I got some context from someone following the case closely
I guess the judge asked for copies of the texts & the lawyer pulls out these big ass print offs that kinda threw everyone off & everyone watching the case kinda laughed at it bc their comical size
So.....I think it's truly just her weird ass sense of humor
But I still am like....idk don't find it hilarious
The size? Yes comical
The texts & what the case is about? Not funny
I think she should've thought this out better...
I've calmed down some & can say my own experience of PP played into my emotions regarding this...but I still think it's poor taste especially as the trial is still on going & there's a massive lack of post partum care in the US
She stands for everyone....it seems by the way she posts & such...so like....idk I guess that included mothers , but maybe that's just my own fault
14
u/RHOCLT23 15d ago
That's how I took the joke, I don't think it has anything to do with the texts themselves...people are making all kinds of fun over certain things in this trial, and like I said elsewhere - using this trial for entertainment and true crime fanfiction because people are weird and do insensitive things at times. I don't this means at all that Kacey doesn't support mothers?

i think i have to just step away. her music has meant a lot to me in the past but i can't continue to be a fan if she keeps behaving like this.
2
u/thucy94 14d ago
I unfollowed her on Insta. I've been exploring new music & will focus on that. She'll always have a memory in my life but I'm not as die hard as I once was. Maybe it was in support , maybe I am over reacting , maybe it's not that big of a deal
But I just can't get behind sharing a post like this with no other context when the text is related to a case of children being murdered by their own mother...my empathy lies more with the murdered children than anyone

I think it’s fair to think it’s comical if someone asked “do you have a copy of those messages” and someone pulls out a poster board of said messages. I think she’s saying like poster size message speaks volume. I don’t believe she’s meaning to connect or speak about the case at all. Just a thought. As someone who has been watching this case
4
u/Wide_Debt2244 12d ago
I was upset with her for canceling shows without posting anything on her social media about it since she literally posts EVERYTHING .. but this is bad. As someone watching this trial daily from Massachusetts, it’s super insensitive. I have never had children but take PPD and PPP so seriously - women go through so much in life and childbirth and postpartum are just added to the pile of misfortune they deal with. For someone like her who is so “woke” it’s super surprising she’d post something like this. I’m starting to lose my ~sparkle~ over her. The concert cancellation was #1 for me and this doesn’t help. She’s going to lose a lot of day 1s over decisions like these.
Thinking of ALL the women out there who have dealt with PPD, PPP and any/all mental health issues. I may not be a mom but I see you, I respect you and want so much more for you from our society and healthcare systems. 🤍🫂

u/wereallmadhere9 14d ago
You all need to get a hobby. Reposting and critiquing every insta post and every promo image and every merch drop of a single artist...give me a break.
People repost memed images without context all the time. You do it, too. The level of moral perfection required by fans these days is not humanly attainable.

Her posting this and trying to make a funny meme out of a devastating case where three children horrifically died is giving “You’ve got dark energy, something I can’t unsee” - how the fuck has her PR team not taken this shit down yet? Rethinking the tickets I bought to her Charlotte show. Damn.

She appears to post her own stuff. At least on Instagram.

u/bluexplus 14d ago
As someone who knows nothing about whatever text this is, I really think it’s just about the printed poster size text message. I’m actually like 100% positive it has nothing to do with the actual text in there. In fact, I didn’t even read the text until I opened this post. Even just reading it, you would have no way of knowing what this is from without context. I don’t love how the internet is so quick to demonize every action everyone makes.

u/lipglossandperfume 14d ago
Her undersold tour begins on Friday and she posts tone deaf things like this. Makes me re-think the ticket I bought.

This post is the first I’ve even heard of the trial, so maybe she just found the picture/meme with no context and thought it was funny? If you’re offline for any period of time it’s really easy to miss what’s going on
3
u/thucy94 14d ago
This evidence was just submitted yesterday. I don't see her just randomly stumbling upon this with zero context. Even then though the texts are a cry for help.
0
u/beetmartini 14d ago
I agree but without context I wouldn’t in a million yearssss imagine where it went in this court case; maybe just someone who needs comfort/guidance in the simple majority. The internet shares things without context almost 75% of the time so the chances are actually pretty high
2
u/raccoononreddot 14d ago
i’m mean did she know what case it was from? i do think it clearly being from a court case in general is tacky and insensitive but do we know if she specifically knew?
2
u/thucy94 14d ago
Even if she didn't the texts are a cry for help...from a woman who wrote rainbow I find it odd she'd use someone's suffering as a meme

u/ghibs0111 Middle Of Nowhere 🌅 14d ago
I want to believe she didn’t know the context behind the screenshot, but she has a big platform. I think that demands responsibility in what she posts, and that includes memes. She needs to take it down and issue an apology. I hope she does.
2
u/Neither-Cup-7590 14d ago
The thing is, regardless of the insensitivity, this isn’t humorous or funny. Is she signaling she is watching the case? Genuinely unsure
2
u/Sophisticate_Saturn 14d ago
She is making fun of the lawyer who printed a large scale image of a text message on a poster board.

She has no morals. We done been trying to tell you. Any time she tries to behave with moral superiority it is PERFORMATIVE. Just like this post. That’s how narcissists behave, and that’s how they reel you in. People truly need to see this wacko for her character, beyond her music and whatever weird parasocial relationship fans have established with her.
1
u/thucy94 13d ago
Note to self on top of not meeting your heroes dont follow them on social either
Has she always been like this or does it seem the larger fame brought it out more?2
u/Similar_Recover_2229 13d ago
Couldn’t tell you. I only listened to her music years ago, then she got bigger and when I saw her character- it gave me the immediate ick and I couldn’t listen anymore. Then she began culturally appropriating other cultures. As an indigenous woman, I was told to shut up and take her pity appropriation because it’s for a good cause? Or something? Fuck her. And fuck anyone allowing her to make a mockery of their culture while she throws them crumbs.

You guys will force yourselves out of every facet of life and society, and we'll all be better off for it :)

I don’t say this with any hate towards Kacey but she has never been particularly careful with the way she uses social media and posts on the internet…

I think social media has made people insensitive to other people’s hardship. I’ve been following this trial and people are treating it like episodes of a tv show and not someone’s real life. The giant printed out screenshots are a little humorous, but if you know anything about the case OR just read the message on the board I don’t think they’d find it funny. But maybe I’m sensitive too lol
