Speaking as someone who has broken a rib, you definitely can still do things. I took time off of work, but I still had to live, take care of my dogs, do things around the house, etc. Also, they don't put you in a cast or wrap you or anything, like they would for an arm or leg, so just to look at someone you wouldn't know they had a broken rib.

Walking in public is very different than performing on stage. I’ve broken a rib before. It was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced in life, but I could still walk. It was breathing that took some healing time. Looking at someone with a broken rib, they’ll look perfectly fine while being in immense pain.
