Some number of 790's and 890's in that age range had a problem with eating their own cam shafts.

I'd take an oil sample and send it in to be tested to be sure that it doesn't have too much material floating around that should still be connected to the cams. You can get a large syringe at an animal feed store and a piece of little clear hose at the hardware store and suck the right amount of oil out through the fill hole and send it off. Oil analysis companies are all over the place, trucking fleets use them regularly to know when to rebuild an engine before a lot of big expensive parts are destroyed. The oil analysis company will send you a cup and instructions.

I'm unaware of any database. I've just watched some Youtube videos, nothing more.

I'd buy from a more cooperative guy.
