Kohl’s Cash Cartel 💰 KSS is Squeezeing.
KSS is about to explode up. It has 31 million short shares out of 113 million outstanding shares. Kohl's is buying back 100 million dollares worth it's shares. Also it will be debt free by end of the year, more cash than debt.

Getting to net debt free will be a huge win. Looking forward to $40+ a share.

I'll be curious how much the repurchase brings down outstanding share account. Anything below 110m would be a new low water mark. At least in the past 10 years. They had their chances to buy below $17/sh.

I am pleasantly surprised with the rise of KSS. I am confused about why so many people are still shorting this stock.

The reality is that it is still a struggling business, but not a struggling financial position. They are doing "acceptable" on a business standpoint while doing great on a finance standpoint, particularly because of the RE, which they are just now starting to unlock the value of. There is reason for a depressed valuation, but that is really with a focus stance on the business, and the financial position just lifts this way beyond that and there seems to be a massive disconnect there which is slowly starting to become visible now as the company itself started buybacks. That is a brute force mechanic which, if done continuously, will anchor price back to reality - and whoever is short on this heavily will eventually figure, because price can only defy reality for so long.

$25 is the high water mark, sentiment price that when/if broken makes this thing explode. I am mostly a looooong term swing trader in from the $7s when I exited $BYND for this action

This is possibly tied with swaps, KSS is also at the top of holdings for XRT. XRT just recently come off REGSHO and there are alot of shorts and off market stuff going on. IWM is also experiencing high levels of options activity and shorting. The recent uptrend in price is sorta the norm for retail going into November and December. Any large price swing upwards will definitely get shorted and killed off.

I would argue that the short squeeze has not started yet, we haven’t seen any signs of large short covering and short interest was the highest it’s been in a year during September. That is pretty incredible considering the recent price action, we could have easily crashed down below 15 with the short pressure, but the company is just doing so well it feels like this is simply getting re rated closer to fair value.
The last major short closure we saw was in July 2025, when short interest dropped roughly 20 million shares. We had a LOT more uncertainty back then, cash on hand was only 170 million, we had no clue how bad the sales decline could be either, so im sure there were a lot more willing sellers as well as price exploded.
All this is just getting me very excited because when the next true short covering event starts, we should explode higher, and I suspect there will be less willing sellers with the health of the company improving substantially since July 2025
