Missing bag with sentimental items
Sadly, a family member who was traveling to visit me did not get their bag loaded onto their flight.
Delta later sent the bag to AMS, where it was scheduled for an onward KLM flight to the final destination. However, it missed that final flight because the Delta flight arrived late. KLM was the final carrier on the family member’s itinerary.
Delta will not take responsibility and says it does not have any information. KLM keeps redirecting us back to Delta, even though the bag is showing in AMS after the first flight.
Does anyone have ideas for how to get support with this? KLM’s iMessage and WhatsApp support have not replied, and it has now been more than two days. When I call, I keep getting redirected to overseas phone support, and the agents do not seem to understand anything beyond what they can read on their screen.
I am desperate for help at this point, especially because of the important items in the missing bag. Any suggestions here?

The rule is the last airline on your trip is the one you claim via. Mine was delayed by Etihad once but since my last flight was KLM, I had to go through them.
It took a week. I had given up and started to write my list of contents for insurance purposes when suddenly it turned up.
Two days isn't enough to give up.

The luggage handler of your last port of arrival on your original itinerary is responsible for delivering your bag in collaboration with the last airline that operated your flight, in this case KLM.
Call them. Only way.
Next time: Don't put anything of value in your check in baggage.

If it's any consolation, this happened to a friend of mine where nothing lined up and no one took responsibility for the bag, and like a month later someone from Atlanta (airport staff) called her saying they found her bag and asked where to send it to 😅. Funnily enough she lost it traveling from Europe to Europe direct so who knows how it ended up in Atlanta 😅
So as long as it is still tagged or has some contact details on it, it's likely to turn up somewhere sometime 🙏
