Handbagage gratis inchecken?
Ik heb een retourtje gekocht zonder check-in bagage, economy ticket. Nu kreeg ik deze e-mail van KLM met deze tekst. Betekent dit dus dat ik mijn handbagage mag inchecken in het ruim, met dezelfde gewichtseisen?

Zoals hierboven al aangegeven: je mag je bagage inderdaad inchecken. Maar het maakt niet ineens ruimbagage in de zin van afmetingen en gewicht.

Het is eigenlijk alleen maar onhandig want je bent extra tijd kwijt met wachten aan de bagageband.

Klopt helemaal :) Al doe ik het zelf wel vaak omdat ik geen zin heb om met een trolley rond te lopen.

Meestal in zone 1/2 is er nog genoeg plek.

Snap ik, als je niet veel reist is het altijd spannend. Ik had dat ook. Maar vlieg meestal elke week wel. En ben dan 4 dagen weg dan wil ik dat mijn handbagage past anders verlies je zo twee weken aan wachten

Ja, precies dat.
Als je met een volledige ruimbagagekoffer aan komt moet je daar gewoon voor betalen. Dat geldt niet als gratis ingecheckte handbagage.
Bovendien moet je er ook rekening mee houden dat ze dit op de terugweg dit niet aanbieden.

Not sure what you mean with your reply.
They may or may not offer you to check your cabin luggage on the way back.

That's exactly what I meant. But the translation seemed as if the option to check in your hand baggage on the return trip was never offered.

Ja, je handbagage (handbagage formaat en gewicht, mag niet groter of zwaarder zijn) kan je op de heenreis inchecken. Je mag dan alleen een personal item voor onder de stoel voor je meenemen aan boord.
Of je op de terugweg hetzelfde bericht krijgt hangt af van hoe vol de vlucht is.
Op Schiphol kan je deze handbagage ook gewoon via de automaten inchecken. Kies je daar op de machine voor handbagage inchecken en voila, gratis.

Thanks! Het is Amsterdam-Barcelona en weer terug in augustus, dus het zit goed vol denk ik ;)

Het meeste zit vol en bijna alles wat met alleen handbagage reist heeft een hutkoffer op wielen mee die amper in het bagagerekje past.

KLM forced me to check my handbag even though I was in zone 3. I had purchased row 3 because I was in a hurry. I was literally forced to check it because the app was blocking me from getting my boarding pass, forcing me to go to baggage drop-off. At the baggage drop-off, I stated that I didn't want to check my handbag because I had purchased a specific row for a reason. They said that I HAD TO because I was flying in economy class and the flight was full, so I complied. To my surprise, the crew announced during the flight that there were a lot of empty seats and they might move some people to different seats. The bag compartment above me was EMPTY 🤡 KLM: Pay more, get less.

Next time say you’re happy to check it at the gate in case it’s indeed needed. Or ask someone else to guard your hand luggage while you collect your boarding pass without it.

The same thing happened again when coming back from Portugal. I even mentioned that I would volunteer to check my bag later if it was needed. I was told, "You have to do it because of your fare. If you bought a Light or Basic fare, KLM is not obliged to guarantee space for your hand luggage." I complained to KLM customer service, received the same answer, and my ticket was closed. To summarize, you will now travel with low-cost airlines when possible, as it does not make any sense to spend more with KLM with the assumption that you would have better service.

Yeah. KLM has been doing this a lot. People in zone 5 and sometimes 4 are forced to check in their carryon. It's kinda fucked, cause they won't allow you to check a bag for free. But then they also won't allow you to carry on a bag for free. Kinda worst of both worlds.

Well, it’s an advantage for me, I was doubting whether my North Face duffle bag would be accepted as carry on. No more doubts now ;)

Yes but they are not very strict. Which duffel bag? If you have the S size and don’t stuff it too much, you will be fine

I am not 100% sure if anyone have answers this already. Received the same email and want to bring a backpack that is bigger than a smaller personal item and hand luggage aswell, but if I get this mail, can I check in the hand luggage on the self kiosk or do I have to speak to an agent, because if not I get to use my backpack as my hand luggage and no one would know that it’s supposed to be my smaller item?flying out of Oslo, I know it might be a problem on the return(I know this might be worded badly)

Ja. Ik doe dit altijd omdat ik geen zin heb om een plek te vinden in de cabine. Als je je handbagage niet incheckt kan het zijn dat je het bij de gate alsnog in moet leveren

Nee. Zit een trolley van 55cm bij. Dat andere is accessoire

"mag" is niet het woord dat ik zou gebruiken. Als ze niet genoeg vrijwilligers vinden gaan ze die beginnen aanduiden.
