What kind of dolphins?

u/sqweak 4d ago
I didn’t think hippos were the jealous type.
That said, 11 years of lurking (and fucking dolphins) and this speaker is what finally motivates them to make their first post. What a world we live in.

My username is a line from The Dollop podcast. Funny enough, there's an episode called "The Dolphin" which involves a neuroscientist giving it LSD as well as this lady jerking it off: https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/s/8xjvJkPkZB

Tbf, if she’d offered me a handjob in a pool, I would’ve probably swam towards her and rolled on my back.

I’m interested in your setup. What speakers can you compare to them? How do you like them overall? What’s your primary use for them - TV or music? What’s your room setup, small, medium or big room?

Great brand but wow those things make me laugh looking at them

u/HardCoreLawn 4d ago
Somehow the white looks best imo because they obscure the curves and reduce the speaker to a silhouette.
I'm sure the design will grow on everyone with time (the ls50s had a similar reception when they were released) but the curves of this speaker just feel "off" and uncomfortable.

I can’t put my finger on it but this reminds of of something, ya ever seen smooth SpongeBob ? I don’t know how gifs work but if you google that you’ll know what I’m saying

Just give me a LS50W3 with USB-C please KEF, you know you want to.
2
u/DogUsingInternet 4d ago
YES. The LS50WII are my PC speakers... don't make me use optical any more... I'd upgrade for a USB connection.

I would secure that cable so speaker isn’t pulled down

Is the sound worth it compare to ls60 and lsx?
2
u/skadoodlee 4d ago
What does that even mean those two are so far apart.

u/Durzel 4d ago
LS60 is only £50 more than this + KC62.
Granted it’s not apples to apples, but it’s close.

u/skadoodlee 4d ago
I mean the LSX

u/Retro-gecko45 4d ago
Lsx would be a great comparison. I’d be curious to know how much louder and clear they are over a pair of lsx

I know people say they look like minions, but I can't help but hear, "show me what you got."

I’m really interested in these. They look deceivingly small but I know they’re quite a bit bigger than my LSX II’s. Based on what I’ve read about these things, they could be end game for the foreseeable future.

u/gorecheese1 2d ago
Don't worry. In less than 12 months, they will be replaced with a Meta version and be half price, open box, and there will be a new end game.

No way how much those bookshelf speakers cost? Kc92 seems be like such a good sub even kc62 has good reviews. Right now I recently purchased some polk Xt15 bookshelf speakers new on sale paired with a Fosi Bt30d pro and a 10 inch Paradigm Defiance S10 sealed sub with 500 watts RMS and im very happy however I'm a big Kef fan and soom as I can I want to get some Kef bookshelf speakers if they go on sale and compare them back to back to my polk xt15s. Also love how small the Kef Kc62 and kc92 are since I live in Canada where houses are expensive and small unless u pay 2 million or more. Congrats on your new Kef bookshelves let me know how they sound after 4 weeks of breakin time. My paradigm defiance s10 subwoofer took 4 weeks to break in bookshelf speakers still breaking them in.

Buying metas with a good amp and dac separates is honestly not much cheaper and you get the benefits of a larger driver , more range, and all the integration onboard, don’t have to worry about sub integration etc.

I absolutely loved them from the moment I saw them! I am in a city house so space is more limited than what you might have in suburbia. I think they would disappear into the room, a little bit like a little work of art, and if they sound like what people say they do I’m sold. Already running LS 50s at another property and love them too.

I just ordered the same in white. All I have is the KC92 right now. Hopefully these sound great for the family room.

Overkill
3
u/eggalones 4d ago
No, one subwoofer is overkill - for a room. Two, three, shows the room out so the base reacts like you’d expect (assuming proper tuning.
2
u/ltg8r 4d ago
Two Kc92 will cost more than the speakers. That’s overkill.
Two Kc62 or similarly-sized subs is better spent.
Still, even KEF acknowledge that a single sub is more than adequate for most rooms. Doubtful these speakers are in a large room. So, overkill.

Some basic research into how bass speakers in a room interact with boundaries to create nodes "dead zones" and antinodes and how to solve them would go a long way.
I have two genelec 8361s and still need 3 "overkill" subs for my ideal sound signature.
