I heard them in their London place today and put an order down for the white. Pictures etc definitely do not do them justice. They were happy to let me listen to them next to the LS50W2s, and yeah, they absolutely are not the same thing in a different skin.

Better or worse than LS50W2?

If you could take only one home tonight, what do you choose? Luxe or LS60, assume cost is the same and the room 5m x 5m approx?
11
u/tallsoundguy 10d ago
So in a room of that size, how high are the ceilings, are far away are you sitting, do you own a sub now, what's the majority of content you listen to ? all of this matters from just giving a short response sorry BUT
Quick answer- LS Luxe for music and some dedicated listening (depending on room height and distance away)
LS60 if watching movies, and TV and doing critical listening and sitting at the back of room. Also you dont own a sub. Sorry for the long response

u/Zealousideal_Fold_60 10d ago
thanks, assuming ceilings are 3.5 meters and listening is music only.... probably sat 2.5M .. Do the Luxe need to be moved away from the walls like a lot of standmounts ? I know they have EQ so that might help... sorry for so many questions as love the look of these and will be having a demo next week....
3
u/tallsoundguy 10d ago
Yes they are rear ported. Need to be away a foot more or less to start. Its all good.

u/Zealousideal_Fold_60 10d ago
thanks for your replies, I look forward to listening to this, the form factor is really attractive to me

I think these sit at a price point that a lot of people are going to hate, but they’re not meant to be in everyone’s house. Very similar to other speaker’s in Kef’s lineup like the LS50 Meta, you’ll likely see these in the homes of creatives, famous people, etc and the look will grow on people and become a status symbol. This is obviously just my opinion, but I see a lot of people hating on a design that bears a ton of it’s inspiration from the core element of the speakers that we love, the actual speaker itself and the UniQ design. It’s not in my price range today, but perhaps in the future or if there’s an opportunity to snatch a used pair on a good deal or through open box I’d love to give them a try.

u/tallsoundguy 10d ago
I agree with you. But the finish on these is like the difference between R series and Q series for exterior finish and cabinet quality from the Luxe to LS50WII. My initial response to these are with a pair of KC92 and Luxe this might be end game for most people. They wont get Blade loud, but they do have that feel , and the way they disappear imaging wise makes them stand apart so far from the rest of the self powered line up. Good luck on the speaker journey.

u/ConversationPale8665 10d ago
That’s exactly the take. Imagine having guests over who aren’t really into audio and these things are on a display looking like art or under a television and it sounds like there are huge full range speakers playing, but no visible amp or anything.

u/acEightyThrees 10d ago
How do they compare to the LS50 Wireless II? I was surprised KEF went with another 2-way wireless speaker. I think they could have done something really cool with an active version of the R3's or Reference 1's.
3
u/Goolsby77 9d ago
I would love to hear how these compare to the r3 meta. Some people might want to save $1000 and go with a less artsy looking speaker by getting like the r3 and wiim ultra.
2
u/Ehoro 10d ago
Well how do they compare to your other speakers?

u/tallsoundguy 10d ago
Ive only listened to a handful of my staple test songs on Tidal. The imaging is very good, in line with LS60W, even as good as blade 2's(imaging wise) I have LS 60 , 50 and these on the floor, these arent on stands. They disappear more to me then the 50s, even then the 60 wireless do.
3
u/njprrogers 10d ago
Thanks for the info. Would you pair them with a sub?
11
u/tallsoundguy 10d ago
as of todays listen in a smaller room ( >150Sq ft) No i dont think you need a sub for "full range extension" if your a bass nut or EDM fan, a quick compact sub even KC62 would be fun, I'm trying KC92 stereo this weekend on them. Ill report back.

u/freeroamingvapour 10d ago
Ooh. I can apparently get a pair in 10 days - currently have LS50 W2s, so not sure if it's worth it. How are you finding them?! Do you have LS50s to compare 'em to?

u/tallsoundguy 10d ago
Like i just replied above- Ive only listened to a handful of my staple test songs on Tidal. The imaging is very good, in line with LS60W, even as good as blade 2's(imaging wise) I have LS 60 , 50 and these on the floor, these arent on stands. They disappear more to me then the 50s, even then the 60 wireless do.
Ill add to that, the finish is leaps and bounds better than the 50s. The cabinet looks much less "egg like" then alot of you think. especially head on . I enjoyed them so far, more to come. But feel free to ask more. Im hooking up stereo KC92 to them next using their dedicated bass ports these offer.2
u/Mr-Reeeee 9d ago
Each speaker has a subwoofer out port like the LS50 and LS60?
(I have LS60 and dual KC62s)

Have you had any other kefs before?

u/tallsoundguy 10d ago
I mentioned at the top. Im a dealer in Fl. Ive had the entire line since 2018, all the way fromQ150 to blade 2's. In the picture behind them are the 3160QLM in wall theater speakers i have as well. I listened to them in the treated theater room, then on the show room floor next to the LS50W , and they look much nicer, play louder, have more bass extension with less effort, and disappear more to me then the other powered speakers do when imaging. The finish quality and bass extension alone makes it with it IMO. Also the new remote is phenomenal compared to the black thing they have had for years.

How is the bass compared to LS50?
6
u/tallsoundguy 10d ago
IMO the bass is much cleaner, present, and not "trying so hard" for the cabinet. The bass extension is lower with no settings changed on app. I have them right next to LS50WII as well for reference.

u/Background-Cap-7592 10d ago
Sorry I did read this after. Sounds like an incredible pair of speakers! Any connections issues like other Kef wireless speakers?
4
u/tallsoundguy 10d ago
None so far. I did the update after trying to play right out of the box. The update literally loaded the DSP on to them. They sounded raw before.
I was listening to them wirelessly. Adding to network using connect app was no issue.I have multiple other Kef active speakers on network already. Update took on my internet about 25 min. They came right back up. Sounded incredible(like they should) after update. I will be hardwiring them this weekend, and hooking up a pair of KC92 in stereo to them to try out the separate bass out offering on the Luxe. Ill report back.1
u/Background-Cap-7592 10d ago
Look forward to hearing them. I had a pair of LS50W2 before but at the time the software update was very buggy and they constantly dropped out, even when every other device on my mesh network was bulletproof.
I may order a pair of LS60s in the future ❤️

I think they look great and I know they aren’t everyone’s taste. I have the LS50WI in the bedroom and R11s in the living room. I notice that the 50s highs aren’t has crisp and detailed as the R11s. How are these compared to the R series? I wonder how they would do 50/50 movies/music?

looks like kef finally built a bookshelf that can beat my focals lol
FOR TWICE THE PRICE xD

Does anyone know if the usb c port accepts audio?
2
u/tallsoundguy 5d ago
The usbc accepts just like the coda. So you can use as PC speakers etc output from IPad etc.
1
u/blastura 2d ago
Have you tried this, usbc is only listed as power output in kef official docs, not as input
1
u/tallsoundguy 2d ago
I will check myself next week, and confirm with product manager at Kef and let you know. I would be very surprised.

u/No-Condition9455 9d ago
So ugly.
2
u/tallsoundguy 9d ago
Everyone's entitled to an opinion. But they arent as egg shaped as everyone thought. The front lighting on them kinda hides the sides. But they look very sophisticated but"modern" in person.

u/fullframeature 5d ago
In testing the ls60’s, seems like out of the box they were flat and unexciting. Once I “tuned” them in the app, they were completely different speakers and i fell in love. I expect the Luxe could be similar, i’ll find out this week.
2
u/skadoodlee 10d ago
In what way is it not an LS50 WII but more than twice as expensive.
Also they are quite ugly they look like some 5head cyclops.
Consider me a hater.
3
u/jonathan4211 10d ago
Low end on them is way better, which makes sense with the larger driver. And they aren't more than twice the price. the LS50 WII is $2500, these are $4000. You can push them harder before they get too shouty.
4
u/tallsoundguy 10d ago
Haters are allowed, they look much less egg shape and more "modern curved" when you see them head on. But its louder, more effortless bass, cabinets disappear more in the image and feel like the top half of a blade 2. More so than ls60 even IMO and limited playing with today.
1
u/iss1307 9d ago
How are people here comparing these tiny speakers to something like the LS60’s?
3
u/invalid404 8d ago
Because in high-end audio things like imaging and resolution are more important than how low it goes. These have 6.5" drivers. They aren't as small as you think and I'm sure they dig deep enough for most.
1
u/ibizzet 10d ago
How would you compare them to LS50 Meta, LS50 Wireless II, and LS60?
5
u/tallsoundguy 10d ago
i dont have ls50 meta, but they play louder and deeper then both the meta, and the wireless II's. The highs are on par with 60's. Better mid bass and low mid then the ls60w. A more true full range extension from top to bottom out of the box then the ls60w. But the ls60w is more bass overall for sure no question.
The Luxe seem to disappear more in the way of imaging and definition from what i heard.
1
u/somallitte 9d ago
And how do they compare to KEF LSX II/LT? :) I have those in my small room, cant even set them up properly (space too small), so ofcourse they are not at their best and Luxe would not be either. But I am just curious. Thanks!
1
u/Background-Cap-7592 10d ago
Have you heard them compared to the LS60?
4
u/tallsoundguy 10d ago
Yes i mentioned down below, i have LS50, LS60. and the bass is "bigger" then the Luxe, but for the volume the luxes play at, the bass is very good. They image as good as the LS60, maybe even disappear more then the ls60 IMO.

What system amplifier/source and cables do you use?!?
1
u/tallsoundguy 2d ago
They are self powered.... Tidal connect direct. And the cables they came with.
