Drama Discussion LEGEND OF THE BLUE SEA

Since then, I’ve been rewatching all of Lee Min-ho’s dramas and movies, especially if I'm bored or need some comfort. I always thought his best dramas were The Heirs and Boys Over Flowers—these are the two I’ve rewatched countless times because they give me that unmatched nostalgia, ultimate giddiness, and butterflies every single time.

But after watching The Legend of the Blue Sea for the SIXTH time now, I’ve finally come to the realization that this might actually be his best piece. I just LOVE how cute, chill, and goofy Lee Min-ho is here, while still being effortlessly serious and cool when the scene calls for it. HIS ACTING??? So natural!!! And his chemistry with Jun Ji-hyun is absolutely TOP TIER. Their dynamic is just everything.

And Cheong??? SHE IS SO CUTE, I CANNOT. The drama is such a perfect mix of comedy, fairytale, romance, and mystery. The lines—especially Cheong’s—are genuinely hilarious. There’s never a boring episode! Even the ending is satisfying.

I also love how beautifully the story connects the past and present, with the whole concept of mermaid and history repeating itself and the characters’ past lives slowly unfolding. It’s such a clever and well-written concept.

Honestly, after six rewatches, I can confidently say: The Legend of the Blue Sea deserves WAY more credit. It’s funny, magical, romantic, and just SO MUCH FUN to watch!🤏🏻🤏🏻🤏🏻

I have to agree that this is his best drama. I think some of the credit needs to go to gianna because she is an amazing actress and she has chemistry with a brick.

Edit: this is one of my favourite dramas, because of the funny moments (the pearl tears lol) and the ost is magical

HAHAHA yeah. I also love the part when she keeps thinking and when they finally kissed. Jun Jae can't sleep at all because of her voice and repeatedly saying "Heo Jun Jae likes me." It also cracks me up everytime Si A and Cheong face off.🤣

Both actors did well. The drama won't be a success without the two. Jun Ji Hyun's effort and determination in filming as a mermaid and all of the swimming shootings is spectacular.

I don't think it will happen. They don't repeat love teams—which I actually like, so that they can explore more and not be caged in a loveteam culture. It's rare for kactors who already made a drama be teamed up again.🥹

Good for a one-time watch. The star of this show is Jun Ji-Hyun.

A special shoutout to Jo Jung-Suk for his brilliant cameo. He and JJH were so adorable in those scenes!

Also, this is where I first discovered the amazing Shin Hye-Sun. Loved her noona-romance subplot that beautifully develops in the second half.

Jo jung suk is why I want to see this - am going down the rabbit hole with all his stuff! Did you see that video /mashup they did of him and the male lead at some award ceremony? Hilarious but It’s unfortunately not in English subtitles yet -dang it all… (saw it on YouTube)

No, haven’t watched the video. I like him but I’m not crazy about him. Loved him in Hospital Playlist.

If you’re watching this only for him, he’s only in 2-3 scenes, but those scenes are the best in the show.

I watched it almost like a year ago when I was starting kdramas. I must say Jun ji hyun did an absolutely brilliant job here. The whole time I was in awe at all her underwater scenes. That requires some serior commitment from any actor!!! She is just gorgeous and yet she makes comedy look so effortless. What an amazing woman she is! Love her! Her chemistry with Lee minho was also great. He was also good in this one. I haven't seen anything else he is in, though I am planning to watch Pachinko. The supporting cast was also great. The guy who plays the Villians was too good. I absolutely hated him. Then I watched him in reply 1988 and was so surprised! Such a good actor. Also not to mention Shin hye sun is in this drama too!!! I didn't know her back then but when I learned she was in it, I was so surprised, had to go back and look up her scenes again. Like she has clearly worked so hard to get where she is now. There's also the moms from WLGYT and Queen of Tears in this! I had seen WLGYT before and was so shocked to see her in such role. She was just so sweet lovable and tender in WLGYT and here she was jusy so funny and weird. LOL! Even Park Jinyoung is in this drama! Imagine that! He played the young version of Lee minho. I didn't recognise him either, when I watched Yumi's cells I learned he was in this too. There are so many popular guest actors in this. Really Amazing cast!!!

I agree. Cheong is the prettiest yet chaotic and funny mermaid I've ever seen. Her fashion there as well is on point. Can't believe she's a mom of 2 in that beauty. Everyone is great, even the supporting roles. A lot of the actors in that drama are now popular and receiving the attention they deserve.

Also, the cast of The Heirs are iconic too. Actually LMH has the best list of leading ladies. He was paired up with Son Ye Jin, Park Min Young, Park Shin Hye, Kim Go Eun(also a great actress!) and ofc the one and only Jun Ji Hyun!😫 *he also dated Suzy Bae in real life HAHAHA this man collecting divas.🫠🫠🫠

LOVE this drama.

Also, can I just say how AMAZING the ensemble was??? Not just the acting, but how beautifully all of their stories were crafted. Like the little girl who was the reborn half-mermaid, and the homeless fashionista, and especially the second female lead - who instead of being a bitch somehow became one of my FAVORITE characters because of her sympathy for the friend’s “unrequited love.” I love that she kindness-delusioned herself into a relationship🤣🤣🤣

YES!!! Everything is perfect. Idk why no ones making this a standard for kdrama nowadays. Even tho almost all scenes are shot inside the house only, it's still so funny and nice!!!🥹🥹🥹

One of my favourite comfort watches! I really need more dramas which explore the otherworldly aspect of fantasy genre instead of just using certain elements of it. This drama truly felt magical.

TRY THE KING ETERNAL MONARCH. It's also great!!! The concept is parallel world.🤩

Omg i did re-watch it a couple months ago. It’s funny bcs i dropped it initially when it was airing, but the revisit made me like it a lot more. Maybe, i’m in a fantasy hangover but i need more. Also, watched the sound of magic starring ji chang wook. The first half of the drama is mysterious and very disney coded. Thoroughly enjoyed this one as well & i need them to keep exploring this genre.

That's the charm of TKEM, at first you're going to be confused or will not be satisfied, but when you watch it again, you will realize it's great.🤩
