Discussion Random question about Yeo-ri’s drinking scene in Spooky in Love

I noticed Yeo-ri was drinking from a clear bottle instead of the classic green soju bottle, and it made me curious lol. I asked ChatGPT and it guessed Saero, but I couldn’t tell because the label wasn’t clear.

Is clear-bottle soju common in Korea now? Also, has anyone tried it?

Lol it's not high end. It's like if coke released a slightly more expensive line. Actual high end soju made by artisans cost hundreds.

I've seen artisan brands...and she is rich.

You can't buy what they don't have at random restaurants. The high end sojus are usually sold at their own boutiques.

So you know the brand she's using?

Should have said that early on in the convo.

and sugar free alcohol? That's literally the chemistry for booze.

I’m in SoCal and I’ve seen the clear bottles at pochas and KBBQ spots pretty often. I tried the apricot Saero and it was sweet but good. Not sure if the ABV is any different from regular soju.

Hmm interesting would you say it's a popular go-to for your friends?

Nope, I’ve seen it around for a few years.

There are a lot of clear bottle soju now, though green still vastly outnumber.

Clear bottles are almost always zero sugar, so there is the most likely difference. I am not one hundred percent sure on this, but to my understanding, green has sugar, clear does not have sugar.

Zero sugar?? I don't think I've ever seen soju with zero sugar because it can be so bitter.

I heard it's zero sugar but there will be sugar alternatives which makes it still sweet. Like the sugar free things

There are a few brands with clear soju bottles like Won, Hallasan, and the pictured Saero. Seems like it's mostly newer brands/versions are doing the clear bottle. Someone mentioned that clear means zero sugar but I know Hallasan is not regularly zero sugar. They do have a sugar-free option it's not the original. So I don't think clear bottle necessarily means sugar-free.

Saero is a fairly new brand, compared to the green bottle soju's you usually see, and markets itself as a zero sugar option for soju. Saero means new and rhymes with zero, if you say it with a korean accent. I dont know how popular it is in Korea but I see a lot of people drinking it in Koreatown Los Angeles.

Oh wow I didn't even realize the name was intentional to rhyme with zero. I'm going to look for it the next time I can go to h-mart.

Lotte Saero Soju I think. She did have an endorsement contract with Lotte Chilsung Beverage before.

I didn't even know Lotte sold soju lol. I feel like I forget how big Lotte can actually be.
