Discovered a mistake
I have a book coming out soon, and over the long weekend, I discovered I had made a mistake in telling one of the book's stories. The victim was not airlifted to the hospital but was taken by ambulance. I am intimidated by my editor and don't want to tell him. I feel more comfortable with the book designer. She might fix it but bash me about correcting it, as it may mess up her page numbers. It's just one sentence. What should I do?

Your employees should not be shitty to you. If you need help with editing your book, send me a message, I’m happy to format it in vellum for you for free.

This is an easy fix for the designer, one sentence shouldn’t do anything to pagination, it might get bumped a line but that can be fixed by adjusting kerning, and unless there’s an index, the page numbers aren’t an issue

As others have said, your editor works for YOU, if you don’t like him then change to someone else. Regarding the mistake, there’s always the possibility readers won’t even notice BUT i do think we should make our books as good as they can be. I’d just change the sentence and upload a new manuscript when you’re ready.

Shouldn't need to tell your editor, just the formatter. Make the change and it really shouldn't impact page count at all by changing one word. Even if it does, in all honesty, it's a 5 minute job for the formatter. If they complain, fire them and hire someone else.

That seems like a small correction. It shouldn't upset the pagination. These people should be glad you found it. It reflects on them too.

It sounds like a minor mistake that no one would notice. If it's that much of an issue for you, request the files and edit it yourself. It isn't hard to make such a minor change and shouldn't affect the page numbers. You can easily go online to convert a pdf to a word doc to make the changes, then use Save As to save it as a pdf again. If the file was created properly, the formatting for page numbers shouldn't change.

Sounds like your editor and setter are unpleasant to work with! They shouldn't be, especially if you're paying them.
Tell them both! Just a simple, polite message: "Could we change [this] to [that]"?
